Hello everyone! I'm Ryan Volta. I'm 34 and live in Arvada, Colorado with a wife and two kids. I just happened to find the DMB Podcast by searching for Dungeons and Dragons in my player one day. The show was only a few episodes old and I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did!
I discovered D&D when I found my father's fast-play D&D book titled "Eye of the Wyvern". I ran the adventure with my family and had a great time. I tried a couple 4e encounters at a local store and it was ok. I came across the 4e book called "Manual of the Planes" and loved it. Some time passed and a new game store opened near my neighborhood. They were running encounters so I thought I'd try again. I meet a wonderful DM named Robert Adducci who was running the 5e playtest. I fell in love with the game but yearned for a more intimate experience so I put together a group of like minded friends, most of them brand new to D&D and started running the game at home.
I think we've been playing together since last summer with a few people swapping in and out of the group. I found a co-worker, Jake, who had played pathfinder years ago and wanted to get into another game. He played encounters a couple of times but was dissatisfied and joined my group.
We've played through a campaign that I loosely based on "Keep on the Shadowfell" and my players have reached level 5. Now Jake and I are switching, he will DM for the first time and I will get to be a player. We plan to continue within a shared world. He will create a story for levels 5-10 at which point we'll switch again and I will DM levels 11-15.
Everyone is having a blast and learning a lot. It's interesting to watch someone go through the same growing pains of being a new DM that you just experienced.
I'm glad I found the DMB Podcast and excited to be a part of the community.
