So tonights adventure the party found themselves roaming through the Earth Temple and they come to a wooden bridge over a 50ft cavernous drop. The dwarf being the only one to see in the dark notice something lurking below. Luckily for them it hadnt notice them. I slipped the dwarf player a note of what he sees and he informs the party that he has encountered these beast in his homeland and that the last thing they want to do is get noticed. As they began making their way across the bridge Dexterity Checks were asked for with the Paladin only one to fail stepping on a broken plank fell through. Hanging for his life he did what he was told not to and looked down to see below a disfigured beast known as a Fomorian who have a psychic attack. I asked the Paladin player Upper or Lower Body. He chose Upper and as he looked up to get a better grip he sees he has no left arm. After one more Wisdom save fail he doesnt realize his mind is playing tricks on him after the psychic dmg. He slips and takes damage as he hits the floor below. The last thing he sees before he falls unconsious is the Fomorians club pummel him. Luckily the Druid turned into a Eagle and the Bard Gnome climbed him and flew to the rescue as the Sorcerer attacked from a far. We ended the night with the Paladin consious once again but still believes he is missing an arm.

That is awesome. I think it's interesting to have the players suffer lasting psychological damage and it be played well on their part. Definitely something that could gain the player inspiration when they play into it.

Of course he will gain some inspiration after the save from the effect if he ever does. He will have to make a Wisdom save the next time they take a long rest to see if he gains his arm back. Afterwards Ill grant him an inspiration.
