I read some of the Shannara books many, many years ago. Enjoyed them. Hoping this is well done!

I've never read the Shannara Chronicles, but I've always wanted to. After I learned all about the criticisms the book got by being "too close to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" it made me interested in reading them. Every Fantasy takes too much from Tolkien anyway. I'm pretty excited about this and it will be interesting to see how it does.

I remember that I read them back in high school, but I don't really remember what I read in them. It seemed like maybe it was just generic fantasy and that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to have more of on TV.

I found a bunch of the hardcover books at a goodwill and bought them. Now i am just kinda trying to make time to start reading them.
Which one was the first one?

Shouldn't be too hard. It seems like every library on the continent has at least some of the Shannara books.

I devoured those books in my youth. If this show had come out 15 years ago, I probably would have imploded in delight.

I haven't seen a single frame of it but the responses I've heard haven't been very favorable. It sounds like it's more Glamour than elf stone.

I've watched the first few episodes. It's soooo close to being good, but the MTV production aesthetic ruins it for me. Everybody is too darn pretty, all the dudes have 8 packs abs and all the women are waifish beauties. Maybe I'm just old. Or maybe I'm just tired of the "beautiful white people save the world while making sexy-face at one another" aesthetic.
The story still shines through. Makes me want to revisit the books. Never made the leap while reading them that they were supposed to take place in Earth's future.

Friartook nailed it. I really like the story, just watched the first 3 episode, but the aesthetic is to crisp and lovely. I will keep watching, but totally am considering grabbing the books

MTV hasn't done anything worth a **** since the last music video was played on there. This is just another campy shot at a network trying to get their own Game of Thrones. If Terry Brooks gave this to them, he is a complete idiot. Has he never seen Teenage Mother or whatever that trash is they play on there?
I hate all things MTV (I am extremely bitter because I watched that from the day it launched and it was the greatest Cable station ever made) so I wouldn't even watch it if it was the best show ever.

Hahaha, thats a fair opinion, I was pretty surprised myself that a show like this was on MTV and not scifi.

Hahaha, thats a fair opinion, I was pretty surprised myself that a show like this was on MTV and not scifi. SciFi would only have been marginally better. They bring their own baggage to the table. I wish a network like AMC could have gotten their hands on Shannara.
