Hi all, My name is Ryan (aka whipstache). My wife, six-month-old daughter, and I just moved from Dallas to Baltimore, so I don't have a gaming group up here... yet. While it seems like a lot of people's tabletop playing faded in college, that's when I got started. I really got into board games and CCGs. I was introduced to MTG by some peeps who frequented the coffee shop that I owned in, say, 2007, and it was all pretty much downhill from there. My first full-fledged RPG campaign came in grad school playing GURPS. We ran a steampunk setting, and I was a sickly dwarf machinist who rode a big steam-powered mech. At that point, I was all in on TTRPGs. But, the DM of our group graduated, and no one jumped in to take his spot, so we kind of dissolved. In grad school I earned a Storytelling certificate by taking a couple classes. I've always loved storytelling; I think it's one of the most important things we do as humans. Plus, I think I'm halfway decent at it. Now that I'm in a new place, looking for a new gaming group, I think I might try my hand at DMing. Hence my searching out and beginning to listen to this podcast. I'm trying to soak up as much information as I can, so I've started at the beginning. I think I'm through episode 12 or something now, but I'm picking up steam. I hope to clear the backlog in a month or so. Thanks to DM Chris and DM Mitch for the podcast. It's already given me loads of ideas (I've started a notebook that's rapidly filling). Thanks to all who participate in this forum. If anyone has an open spot in a gaming group in the Baltimore-Annapolis-D.C. area, let me know!

Welcome to the wonderful world of DMIng!
Thanks for the encouraging words! If you want I'm sure you could jump in a game with some of the forum guys on fantasy grounds or roll 20! Hope you find a group soon so you can put that notebook to use!

Now that I'm in a new place, looking for a new gaming group Welcome to the Blockhead's Daily Commute! Glad you could join us and I will love to put your ideas into my notebook (I think it is notebookS now). Here, I haven't found an idea I disliked. Both of the statements above is exactly where I am at about now. I've been able to get a few single or duel player games in, which have been (surprisingly) fun. Welcome once again!

Thanks for the welcome! I will love to put your ideas into my notebook (I think it is notebookS now). Here, I haven't found an idea I disliked. What's the best place/way to submit random ideas? Not sure any of my ideas warrant their own threads, and there are a _lot_ of posts in the DM Resources and the Homebrew Campaign Ideas forums.

Not sure any of my ideas warrant their own threads, and there are a _lot_ of posts in the DM Resources and the Homebrew Campaign Ideas forums. Many of the threads are labeled Homebrew ---- (whether that be items, creature, races). Most of the random ideas just appear there (and of course depending on what your random idea is whether it be items, creatures, races, etc.). Homebrew Campaing Ideas is for storylines that you think would make a fun/campaign. Don't take my word as cannon, though. This is just where I see the ideas popping up.

Aha, another victim of the coffee industry I managed/owned/worked in coffee shops for a good 10 years of my life. I met my partner (and the mother of my wonderful children) at a coffee shop I managed...she was the owner. You better believe that dynamic has some influence on our relationship Welcome to the forums! As to open games, DM Mitch is correct that there are several folks on here running Roll 20 and Fantasy Grounds games. One of my good friends (a member of my current group) will be moving to Chicago in December. When that happens, I may be looking to start up an online game of some sort, although I'm leaning more toward a Google Hangout/Skype call sort of online session. Less of a virtual tabletop than a theater of the mind video conference call. I'll post here if that is actually happening in the new year.

This is what these forums are all about. There are several sub-forums to choose from. But you can always just start a thread in the World Building forum and toss out a bunch of ideas there. Looking forward to your contributions!

Howdy! Welcome to the concourse of the blockheads. =) Ideas seem to just get got shot out at semi-random so far. Drop 'em wherever it's convenient and they'll prolly get picked up.

Every time someone joins the forum a DM kills a player. I think that's true, and as soon as I post this it will be on the internet, so it must be true! Welcome to the Block Party. I have no doubt that the info here will be great help in creating your world/campaign as you step to the other side of the screen!
