So, in the height of my game, I was pumping out an issue of the "Hulzerth Herald" once a week between sessions. Hulzerth was the main coastal city of my campaign. I created it newspaper-style, and was meant to not only re-cap the previous week's adventure, but I also put in Easter Egg mentions of things that were to come, or were building up. Sometimes they caught them, often they were missed. I created stats for the editorial reporters, and gave them all different personalities, which shows in their articles.
For example, my favorite was the elf; Elrond Hubbard. (Wah wah wahhhhhhhhh...). He was a trashy, TMZ-style reporter, that put a negative spin on everything the PCs did. HA HA! It was great. At one point, they considered taking him out because he was swaying popular opinion so badly against them. It turned out that the BBEG and his cronies had used the local thieve's guild to blackmail Elrond into cooperating and writing those columns.
I also used current events as funny quips in my articles. If any of you remember, at the time in 2003, was the Iraq invasion, and I used the Iraqi propaganda minister as a model to denounce that there were no allied forces in a city, when in fact there were, and everyone knew it. My group got some good laughs outta that one.
Anyhow, I found a couple copies from back in 2003, and while you won't know the specific contexts of the articles as it pertains to my campaign, I thought I'd share them with y'all anyways. Do you guys have anything you send to your players that "fill in the gaps" between sessions? Maybe short stories from an NPC or bad guy perspective?
