So I have created a list of relics that were used in my homebrew setting during the 'Sin War'. These relics were able to seriously damage the Demon army in non-traditional ways. Either causing more damage, severing their ties to the material plane, or curing any sort of blight they created. Here is a list of some of these relics. They are extremely powerful and are well hidden in my world, should the need rise for their use again. These relics were created by an Elder God/Old one who goes by the name "Storm Lord". During the Sin War these relics were created by the Storm Lord and his champion Turc, using the Spirit Forge.
1) The Witch Blade (love the anime) - A longsword made of 'Dark Steel' with an elaborate design (it changes from game to game), with the tang of the blade touching a gem in the pommel that is used to capture and store spells cast at the wielder. This sword usually appears as a +1 or +2 Longsword that can store 1d6 spells. I make the players roll to see how many it stores for that 'campaign'.
2) Loraine's Mark - An Ironwood bow, that was given to the Half-Elf Loraine Corlenthes, who would later become the greatest Archer/Ranger to exist. This bow usually appears as a +1 to +3 bow. The spirit of Loraine still inhabits the bow, and when the command word is spoken the spirit comes to life and begins to 'fire' the bow on her own.
3) The Ever Seed - A quarterstaff created for the druid hero of the Sin War. This quarterstaff was especially created to heal/counter the areas of blight that were created by the Demon armies. Usually appears as a +2 quarterstaff and sometimes gives a 'bonus' when used to heal other characters/npcs/etc.
Well that is it for now. I have plenty others out there but just wanted to share another idea of mine. I am curious to know if anyone else creates and uses relics from an earlier time in their own settings? I think its cool to create these tangible pieces of history. Especially if you can create a story around it, because when the players come across one of these relics they get excited beyond limits lol.

Awesome that they are familiar and I love the flavor of the items. I haven't personally built relics, but magic items I build tend to have cool attributes like these because an lonely arbitrary + isn't very fun. Have you had multiple campaigns in your world ran by the same set of players with different characters? As for the items themselves they are awesome. 1) are there any limitations on what kind of spell and how powerful the spell is that the sword can store? I.e. could the cleric cast a heal at the player and they store it for later? Or the wizard casts a lightning bolt at the player they could use it later in battle? Do they keep them until used? So much potential! 2) I envision someone shouting cover me and leave the bow to fire on its own and then charge off to do something awesome. 3) anti-blight is great and bonuses to healing? What have you had those be in the past? All around great stuff and motivates me to add more history to the magic items I give out.

What anime is this from (I'm not too much of an anime buff, so if it is called 'Witch Blade" please excuse me). You also reminded me of a cool item with this blade (about the sword's emblem changing from game to game). The item is a special weapon that looks like a different type of weapon depending on who is holding it... I also think #2 would be awesome with the spell levitate. I can imagine a ranger levitating this bow and shouting the command word, making it fire as it floats beside him. Awesome items!

Mid-90s comic series that actually just "ended" had an anime based off of it. I believe that there was a live action show for a time, but if so I blocked it out as I think that it was terrible. Cool concept, but not a property I ever really got into.

Yeah the actual Anime is called Witchblade. So it essentially functions the same but instead of just floating and firing on its own, when you speak the command word Loraine's spirit appears and fires the bow for that character. Freeing them up from having to use the bow and can set up some nasty opportunities. Functions the same just has more of 'lore' function to it instead of just levitating on its own.

So I have gone through and updated/answered some of your questions. Going to repost what they are and the things I have added.
1 - Witch Blade: A Darksteel longsword with a gem in the pommel. This gem stores 1d6 levels worth of spells (Avg is 4), weapon is considered a +(1d4) item in regards to the strength of the enchantment. Average is +2. The cross guard of the longsword 'morphs' to fit the persona of the character.
2 - Everseed Staff: A Druidic staff that clutches a fist sized seed in the top of the staff. This staff cleanses areas of blight (restores health to the land), it also increases the potency of all healing magic that comes from the caster/wielder. Increasing all healing don't by +1d4. (Blights in my campaign are mostly RP elements that are caused by certain creatures/groups).
3 - Loraine' Mark - A Ironwood bow personally made for one of the most devout and strongest rangers known. A Half-Elf named Loraine Corelenthes who died during the 'Sin War'. This bow usually appears as a +(1d3) bow. When the command word is spoken Loraine's spirit comes forth and wields the bow (Shoots and loads), she can be commanded to target different creatures or focus on the same target as the wielder of the bow. The spirit of Loraine can only be called once per long rest.
There are other relics that I am currently working on, each one of these relics was used during a major event (Sin War) of the second age of my setting. I have a suit of armor for the warrior types, a non-character specific set of 'healing stones', a helm of true-seeing, a holy symbol from major NPC, and a few others which I am still fleshing out. Each relic played a crucial part in the last major war and are now hidden throughout the world.

I've recently started running another group through my homebrew setting in a 5e Roll20 game. Let me just say I am super impressed by their approach. That being said I am thinking of introducing a new type of metal in this game for the players to interact with.
Its going to be made of a special alloy that combines Mithril and meteorite. Giving the metal a somewhat lighter mass while maintaining a superior quality and durability. I am going to be introducing this to them via a book of metallurgy from an early time. One of the bigger projects in this book is going to be the creation of what I'm temporarily calling Star-Iron. (Giving the players the option to name the actual alloy once they create it). They are going to have to first find a way to 'heat the meteorite' piece rapidly then find a way to weaken it enough to be smelted and forged (thinking some form of magic here, ie. acid/magical fire). Once weakened enough they would then smelt it with Mithril and process it much like Damascus steel. Forging the metals together and folding them over and over. Then once they have the general shape of the object they want they will have to magically cool it. Giving it a quick and sudden drop in temperature to the point of the metal itself going below 0F. Once cooled the metal will almost indefinitely hold its shape (by normal means. ie. wear and tear).
Thinking of giving this metal a natural +1 to whatever it is used as. SO for armor it would become a +1 non-magical suit of armor, a weapon would become a +1 non-magical (bonus would transfer to dmg). One of the catches I would make it is that whatever enchantment is added cannot go over a +2 or +3 (one lower than the max enchantment bonus).
All in all this gives the players something tangible that THEY DID in the world. Once it is done, it will be marked in lore forever. Cannot wait to see what they do.
