Hello there! I have been playing/DMing various editions of D&D for 34 years now. I got my feet wet with the Moldvay basic and expert sets back in 1981. I stopped DMing 4e after a few years since it really didn't excite me. It was okay, but we just got bored and stopped. It could have been my fault, oh well. We moved to 4e because I got stupid with 3.5 and let all the bloat into the game instead of just keeping it core and we wanted to try out the new rules system too. I was looking for something that would bring back the simplicity of early D&D but with more modern mechanics, so I am definitely looking forward to running a 5e campaign and have already started laying the groundwork at Obsidian Portal. I have also GM'd other games like Call of Cthulhu, Champions, Mutants and Masterminds, and Firefly. Obviously I am a gamer- I also occasionally play Champions and Neverwinter online- mostly in the winter when I don't want to go outside- and I am looking forward to Sword Coast Legends. I am also into ren fairs /comic/SciFi/fantasy/horror fan, and movies of all sorts. I used to help run a LARP years ago, creating plot, running monster camp, etc... It was a lot of fun, though I sucked at fighting. I was always more into the RP of the game and the actual fighting bored me. I tend towards dark wave in music listening tastes. I have other interests too, but this seems enough to list.
If my players had to describe me, I think they would say I was a good DM. I try to keep the RP and fighting to 50/50, but there are nights when we would RP all night and others where the running battle took all night. I've DM'd for groups of 1 to 12, with an average of 7 players on any given night. I think the biggest flaw I have as a DM is that I sometimes railroad my players. Sometimes I create my own stuff and other times I steal stuff and then tweak it to my own nefarious purposes. I am pretty good with improve... Roll some dice and make **** up.
I started listening to DMB a few weeks ago and trying to catch up. This has been really helpful with helping me get really creative again in my DMing endeavors. I am also listening to Godsfall and really enjoy that one also. I just started listening to podcasts, so any suggestions to others is greatly appreciated.
I currently work as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at a local University in nuclear fusion research. My job is rife with potential secret origin stories. I live out in the middle of nowhere with my wife, a dog, 2 cats, and a horse.
I am mostly a laid back person, but I do have terrible bouts of road rage.
