Simply enough, we are talking all about secret societies. Often the first sign that a society exists is a simple logo on a message. Sometimes its a symbol painted near a door. The options are endless. For this one rorrik and I thought we could take a look at some logos and think about ways to incorporate them into the world of Dayiembe as secret societies that play a role there! A. Where was the logo found? B. What does the logo stand for? C. Who does the logo point to? D. Why is the secret society being secret? E. # 5 Slaadova OrderThere is a secret order that knows just how dangerous a single slaad poses to the universe. They mercilessly hunt the abberant creatures wherever they spawn. The slaadi grew to fear and hate this band of mortals and named them the Slaadova. Slaad is ‘doom’ and Dova is ‘slayer’ in the slaadi toung. So in short this is the order of ‘Doomslayers’ A. Where was the logo found?Members of the order keep the logo hidden on a bracelet or necklace to keep their membership a secret. Not from the general populace, though that is important, but from the slaadi. They only reveal the symbol to those who they believe are amiable to their cause, or to prove to other members of the order that they haven’t met that they are not slaad. B. What does the logo stand for?It is a representation of the spawning stone in limbo. Primus, ruler of the plane Mechanus, threw this stone into Limbo to try and bring stability to it, but it birthed the slaadi instead. C. Who does the logo point to?This is the ultimate yet unattainable goal of the Slaadova. Route the slaadi to Limbo, exterminate them, and destroy the spawning stone to bring about the extinction of their race. D. Why is the secret society being secret?Many slaadi are shapeshifters that infect people in various ways to breed and the order of Slaadova are a bit heavy handed. If they determine that the shopkeeper is a slaad they will butcher him in the street. If they infect a boy with chaos phage (a disease that would transform the boy into a slaad) they have no qualms gutting him in front of his parents. Needless to say they are not welcome in many places. They also need to keep their identities hidden from the slaadi. For once they know who they are the slaadi can take the form of anyone to get close and kill them. This makes most Slaadova a bit paranoid. E. Anything else that you can think of!Nyasia is the head of the Slaadova order. She is a githzerai (a race of people that also inhabits the plane of limbo) monk that lost her colony in a Slaadi raid. She now uses the ruins of her home as a base of operations in the cosmic struggle against the slaadi. Boq is a prominent member of the Material Plane branch of the order. A charming yet ruthless human that is wanted in three kingdoms for murder (killing slaad incubators). However, the real Boq died almost a decade ago and a Death Slaad has been impersonating him.

Found tattooed on the left inner forearm of a human body that was being dumped by tengu thugs outside the Spire City. B. The symbol is that of the winged dagger, a symbol of rebellion, as the wings carry human weapons to the sky to strike against their tengu overlords. C. Attention to other appearances of these symbols will lead investigators to the rebellion and their leader Icarus Floodhollow. D. The tyrannical tengu government crushes rebellions without mercy. This rebellion hopes to sever some heads before it can be seen. E. The rebellion is untrusting, but willing to take individual risks. If a visitor is willing to take a risky mission, it may be a easy to gain trust.

For this one rorrik and I thought we could take a look at some logos and think about ways to incorporate them into the world of Dayiembe as secret societies that play a role there! A. Where was the logo found? B. What does the logo stand for? C. Who does the logo point to? D. Why is the secret society being secret? E. Anything else that you can think of! 2. A. Found covered by masonry on the back of the throne of a king. Similar markings were found on other thrones across the continent. B. The Masters of the World C. The position of the mark on the throne, as well as other similar marks found behind the counters of businesses, on the chopping block of an executioner, beneath the podium of a warchief, suggests a sort of "man behind the curtain" that has control of more than you might be aware of. D. Reports suggest the people behind this operation take great pride in their secrecy. It is believed they maintain secrecy to be able to operate large groups of people across vast landmasses and control commerce, war, and religion in such a way that the common folk wouldn't be aware of such powers. E. There have been reports, though their credibility comes into question simply from the CONTENT of said reports, of a young girl, who can move faster than the eye can track, infiltrating a palace, eliminating the Emperor within, only being seen by two guards, who were both unable to recall what happened immediately after contact occured, they simply remembered seeing a clasp on her shoulder holding her black cloak up with this symbol on it. Another report is of a large deployment of soldiers being sent into a wooded area previously believed to be uninhabited to track down someone. The search lasted six days, and the only thing that they found at the end of their search was a pile of ashes where a small fire was lit, presumably to burn a piece of paper, and this symbol etched into a tree. There have been shaky reports of sightings of an adult male drow elf having conversations deep into the night with several high-standing merchants in the trade provinces of the Trade Confederacy of the Kane empire, one bodyguard reported seeing this symbol on the hilt of a rather expensive looking dagger. And finally a single report of a man running through the streets of a crowded city, screaming for help, he was reported pursued by a beast that was more monster than man, hulking over the crowd with large horns, a bare upper torso, with this symbol branded on his chest. The pursued man previously mentioned was later found without his arms or legs, and the same symbol carved into his skull... The man was identified as the head priest of a Temple to a Goddess of the Hunt, who was an upstanding member of society but apparently was also urging several farmers and other lower class citizens to rebel against a higher power he wouldn't name. The farmers in question refused to speak with us further after we showed them the symbol, though prior to showing them the symbol, they had confirmed they were speaking at length with this priest. Further information is being sought right now and there are still hundreds of unconfirmed reports similar to the ones I've already listed, but this society seems to value its privacy, supposedly over the lives of its members. The only other thing that strikes me is... these reports span the course of over one-hundred and twenty years... and there are still reports we have yet to confirm that go back centuries before that...

This symbol was found incorporated surreptitiously into death and punishment motifs in a number of prisons, guard houses, and some churches in major cities. A few inns and shops have one embellishing a coat of arms or a sign. It matches the aesthetic themes of the region, so it only seems suspicious when one notices that this element is always identical. B. It's the seal of the Betrayed Empire. 200 years ago, the region was united in a powerful empire experiencing a golden age. A treacherous plot from within, orchestrated by a large number of noble houses, saw the emperor assassinated and the empire carved up by greed into oppressive, fractious, avaricious, feudal fiefdoms. The Betrayed Empire was founded by the minority of loyalist houses who saw their nation collapse at the hands of their own countrymen and fellow leaders. Those nobles used their wealth and influence to establish a network of safe houses, informants, and agents seeded throughout the fragments of the former empire. They operate from the shadows with the long-term goal of bringing the traitorous families to heel and reuniting the land under a common banner once more. The royal line may be gone, but the imperial identity is still in the hearts of the people. C. The symbol identifies outposts for the organization. Jail cells are often used as clandestine safe houses by guardsmen who support the cause--an assassin can slay a corrupt baron, be successfully arrested, and then "executed" on paper. Shops bearing the sign might offer supplies for agents on a mission. D. The society is secretive because if there is one thing that could possibly make the myopic and selfish bickering lords band together is anything that hearkens back to the time of the empire and thus threatens their position at the top of the food chain. Were efforts to reunite the fiefdoms to become known, ironically enough the squabbling lords would join forces just long enough to swat the interlopers out of existence before turning on each other once more. Not to mention that the spying, murder, and theft the organization relies on is definitely illegal as heck.

Grab a logo and tell its tale. A. Where was the logo found? The logo was found on a coin stolen from a traveller in a caravan between cities. If one walks to the foothills outside of town on the night of a full moon, they will find the logo light up along the stone face of a cliff above the entrance to a small cavern. B. What does the logo stand for? The logo is the symbol of a vigilante group of lycanthropes, the Månevagt C. Who does the logo point to? each member of the vigilante group is granted a coin with the logo, which they present to other månevagt to prove their identity. The members protect these coins at all costs, as they provide free will upon transformation. D. Why is the secret society being secret? Because they are lycanthropes, organized lycanthropes at that, they remain secret to prevent being hunted. Also, as vigilantes, they must try to prevent any exposure to remain culpable deniability. E. Anything else that you can think of! While the order is made up of lycanthropes, it is seen as a way of capitalizing on a negative situation. The order does not convert those who are not already lycanthropes and claim that they would prefer to find a cure to their disease.

I Brought one of mine one in i hope thats ok. A. Where was the logo found?
The Symbol is located on members Left hand either the back or the front as the 2 parallel lines with an "X" bisecting. If not a member present the symbol is drawn/burnt/carved into the medium as hand with the lines. The first seent appearance of this symbol is on a severed hand at a scene of a bloody massacre B. What does the logo stand for? Nothing super special. Just showing that the Hand is Scarred.
C. Who does the logo point to? The Organization is called The Scarred Hand
D. Why is the secret society being secret? The Society, is one of the more nefarious Organizations, theft,assassinations,murder, gangs, you name a big city bad crime, these guys are it.
E. Anything else that you can think of! Once brought into this group there is only 1 way to get out. By having your soul captured by one of the Organizations leading lieutenant whos attempting to become stronger by weaving the souls of the "non members" into his skin.

I thought i'd do another since i "cheated" the first time.A. Where was the logo found? These are on the bottom of all the religious tracts that are passed out amongst the town.B. What does the logo stand for? This logo stands for a group that believe their a fallen angle or sorts. Guised as a regular church.C. Who does the logo point to?
The logo represents the group known as "The fallen Angles" and their various sub-sects. D. Why is the secret society being secret? If the regular church finds out about the semi heretical teachings and the blood sacrifices they preform.E. Anything else that you can think of! Many of the members of this church group dont actually know any of the sacrifices happen. If some of the members are present during the ceremony they believe its it just some animal being slaughtered due to the "myst" that true "fallen angles" exhume to disguise what the truth is happening.

A. Where was the logo found? Amongst ruins oft found in hard to reach places. (mesas, cliff-sides, mountain tops, volcanoes, underwater, etc...)B. What does the logo stand for? A defensive dragon, standing against enemies with humanoid weapons in hand. Its a symbol of an alliance between two vastly different peoples.C. Who does the logo point to? The name has been lost to the ages but scholars speculate that this is the symbol of an ancient alliance of dragons and humanoids. The most common moniker for the symbol, presently, is Custos DraconisD. Why is the secret society being secret?It's not so much a secret as it is "eradicated". For unknown reasons the alliance fell apart, in a spectacular fashion, that left all the ruins in which they symbols are found.E. Anything else that you can think of! Maybe this symbol does have a pocket of followers. Maybe there is an ANCIENT dragon slumbering that remembers this time(either for good or ill) Maybe the adventurers take up this symbol and aim to bring back this order and it's mission. Maybe the humanoids that were thought killed off come back(with or without dragon buddies)

This was a great episode!
I used the goblin wagon module from Prepared 2 when starting out my 7yo son and my husband on a home game! I started them at level two and the goblin wagon was a great event for our third session. Goblinoids have become one of the primary enemy type for this campaign. I was very proud of my son who decided to poke his crossbow inside a hole of the wagon to try to shoot the goblins from the inside!
(Also the show you were talking about with Satine is Dragon Tales; I used to watch the hell out of that as a kid!)

Because part of their puprose is freedom, they will often set slaves, caged animals and any other imprisoned or oppressed people free.E. Anything else that you can think of! The logo has three separate symbols combined into one, the wings represent freedom of spirit and the wings of Lothariel, the circle shows the solidarity of the members and the halo of Lothariel, the cross represents the healing mission of the group and the hilt of Lothariel's flaming great sword. I really like the concept of having a composite symbol made of a few sub-symbols. Has potential for fleshing out different branches of the church (military, healing, and converting, maybe?). Makes sense as a secret society if they operate to free captives in a powerful, totalitarian regime.

The Initiative
Where was the logo found? The logo is actually the mark of each member of the adventuring/mercenary guild, The Initiative. Each member has this symbol branded onto them at the juncture where their neck meets their shoulder, usually on the left side.
What does the logo stand for? The sword and axe blades overlaid on eachother represent the original founders of guild, a human paladin named, Deesil Hawthorne, and his companion, the dwarf fighter, Tabitha "Tabbi" Tonstone who had weilded those weapons. The dragon head was later added many years later by the 4th master of the guild, Lord Griswald, who had killed the previous master to get his seat of power, who wanted the logo to be more intimidating. Why is the secret society being secret? The Initiative is not so much a secret society, they actually pride themselves in making sure everyone knows who they are, one doesn't get hired if nobody knows you exist, however since Griswald's coming into power, it is their new dark allegiances and grisly side projects that they wish to keep secret, so secret in fact, most of the members aren't even aware of them. Griswald and his assistant, the unnassuming assassin, Cochran, trust few people, and only the most promising of "Initiates" as the members are called, are let in on their more questionable machinations.
The brand is magical in nature, meant to be a beacon to which the Initiative can track and locate their members. Griswald has since made some alterations to the magic, since the addition of the dragon head. Now not only does it act as a beacon, but if enacted, Griswald can use the brand as either a symbol of recall, planting an overwhelming urge in the bearer to return to the Initiative headquarters, or a symbol of destruction, so if he deems the member is no longer useful and a threat, he just blows up their head and the situation is resolved.

A. Where was the logo found? This logo was found originally on the corpse of the Thieves' Guild Master. B. What does the logo stand for? Originally this logo was the Mark or Calling Card of the assassin that killed the Guild Master of the Thieves' Guild. C. Who does the logo point to? The Symbol points to "Dameron the Silent" the current guild master of "The Dayiembe Cleaners." D. Why is the secret society being secret? These assassins dont really want people to know who or what they are E. Anything else that you can think of! The only way to contact these assassins is through an enchanted coin called "The Assassin's Coin." No one knows how they got the coin but they always seem to come and never get spent. The spell used to enchant the coin is named the same as the coin's name and also is enchanted with the knowledge of how to activate. The only way to activate the coin and therefore to contact the "Cleaners" is to flip the coin and call out "The Dayiembe Cleaners" before they catch the coin again.
