Hey all, long time DM, but first time posting in the forums. I'm currently DMing an Out of the Abyss campaign, and my party is about to leave Gracklstugh (The city of Blades), and I'm wanting to add in some homebrew/extra encounters for their travels in the underdark. One of the ideas I was throwing around, was that they'd encounter the home of a tribe of Flumph ( forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Flumph Everyone's favorite old school "flying dinner plate jelly fish", and a nice throw back to the very old editions, as myself and at least 3 of my players have been playing since 1st or 2nd ed). And was wondering if anyone out in the DM hive mind that are these forums, had any good ideas on how to make the Flumph enclave/tribe an interesting and exciting encounter. (I've just got myself a 3D printer, and I have some skills in Maya, so was thinking of printing out a few custom Flumphs, like guard/battle Flumphs that are armed, plus maybe a chieftain/elder and some spell casters as well, just to give them some personality, and a real tribe feel, instead of just a school of hovering jelly fish people). Thank you in advance for any ideas or suggestions.. if you guys are interested, I can also post pictures of how my Flumph tribe miniatures turned out. Rygel

Could be interesting to have the tribe be under attack and the players come in to help out. They are Lawful Good per the article, so having them attack the players is a little harder. I also super super want to see the minis you come up with!

Yes that could definitely work as the scenario that they encounter the Flumphs (wpuld wprk since our dwarf Cleric is very protective of those in dire need. As per the Lawful Good, since this is the Oit of the Abyss campaign, the madness that is slowly growing/building in the underdark can start to skew the perceptions/edicts of the tribe. We also have a pair of humans that are fairly racist, especially towards "monsters" and doubly so to anything from the underdark.. so there is a good chance they might provoke something, particularly our human wizard who seems to lack common sense and social graces. He nearly got himself eaten by Themberchaud the Red Dragon in Graksltugh. And I will be working on my Minis asap in the new year, and will be sure to keep you updated

Maybe the party is greeted with open arms by the Flumphs, and are asked to deal with a threat that has been causing their hunters to go missing. you could make this hidden threat some ropers, or maybe a spider nest has appeared nearby and the players must delve into the nest to destroy its massive queen and save the flumph hunters who are entangled in its web. This village is definitely a good place to squeeze in some sidequesting though!
