So tomorrow one of the guys in my D&D group is bringing in his daughter for her first D&D game. Another member of our group is running Lost Mines of Phandelver, and I decided to stick to PHB for my character.
Enter Tark "Hamhorn", tiefling butcher. Barbarian class with the Folk Hero background, all of his weapons are reflavored into butcher tools. Hand axes: meat cleavers. War pick: knife sharpener. Javelins...still working on that one. Basically he's a butcher that for various reasons is out in the middle of nowhere fighting wolves and goblins and he is NOT happy about it. On the plus side, the party will be eating good each night.
The reason for the nickname: when he was a kid he broke into a butcher's shop because he was starving. The butcher found him after he knocked a bunch of stuff over with a ham shank stuck on one of his horns. The butcher then proceeded to take Tark in as an apprentice.

A couple scenes I've pictured with this guy:
*Enemies run away* "Get back here you cowardly buckets of puke! I've carved up pigs with more spine than you!"
*Traveler is walking down a country road when a pair of goblins run out of the bushes, tripping over each other in their haste. Tark follows yelling obscenities with a cleaver in each hand. Traveler just stares for a few beats before:* "What just happened?"
"Hey I recognize you! You're Hamhorn!" *Tark glares before sharpening one of his cleavers.*

The javelins could be long handled barbecue forks. For picking up and moving large slabs of meat, or throwing at people.
