It has taken some time, and some serious thought about how to approach a DM-Nastics for a competitive one-shot. Then thankfully one of my players mentioned the idea of having a racing competition!
Using a combo of the racing arc from The Adventure Zone and the Fast & Furious movies I think we can come up with something very interesting. Grab one of the following and lets start making teams of racers that players could go up against, and it could easily allow for multiple teams to join in the race. Designate which team you would want to fill out information for.
Team A: Order of Black Fist Stone
Team B: The Pretenders
Team C: Divine Honor
Team D: Fellowship of the Cryptic Academy
Team E: The Angel Dragon
1. Power Source (who even knows!?)
2. Construction Material (wood, metal, magical force, etc)
3. Propulsion System (engine, wind into sails, treads, wheels, etc)
4. Driver
5. Weapons
6. Navigation
7. Other Team Members
8. Team catchphrase
9. Anything else

1. Power Source (who even knows!?)
Magical inventions that use both the power of steam and electricity! They have also discovered crude combustion reactions and have that as a secret back up engine to turn on the speed when it's really necessary!
2. Construction Material (wood, metal, magical force, etc)
A mixture of metal, tinkerings, and magical forces. The magical forces are mostly low level spells like levitate to just keep the thing off the ground/water. 3. Propulsion System (engine, wind into sails, treads, wheels, etc)A rotating beak propeller, as well as a pair of bird-like feet propellers used for additional lift. The wings make crude flapping motions and puff steam in the direction of flight. The propellors spin faster when engines switch from steam/magic to combustion/magic. 4. Driver
Sir Tiggle Von Steampickle, a curious gnome who has always teamed up with his brothers, Jiggle, Wiggle, Biggle and Liggle and stood on each others shoulders under large cloaks to try to appear as elves. Liggle is large enough to pass for something in between a dwarf and a halfling. He's been known to try to pose as either race, whichever befits him and his brothers. It actually works more often than you think.... The two elves as the be-shouldered brothers introduce themselves as; Cerloyne and Welldyn 5. Weapons
2 x Auto-repeating crossbows that fire 3 bolts/round under the Steampowered engine or 6 bolts/round that also do an extra 1d4 fire damage/bolt when under the combustion engine. The auto-repeaters can be selectively destroyed if targeted AC 21 and instantly malfunction if taking more than 10 damage in a single blow. Their wing bolt baskets hold 100 bolts per drum, and there is one drum on each wing attached to the auto-repeaters. A threshold of 20 damage in a single blow directly to the baskets AC 19 will knock the baskets free. 6. Navigation
The gnomes are surprisingly uncanny navigators, and implanted compasses and other various devices to allow them to know where they are going as far as maps are concerned. They have even developed their own version of a 'coordinates' system that perhaps only the brothers understand... 7. Other Team Members
The Von Steampickles brothers; Jiggle, Wiggle, Biggle and Liggle. Jiggle; ironically named is quite thin, and is the inventor of the group, always thinking of new ideas and improvements. He finds maintenance of current technology tedious and unexciting. Wiggle; one of the stronger brothers, and not known for saying much; he usually is the 'legs' of one of the elves that the brothers pose as. Biggle; is rather small, but incredibly good at quick calculations and his bravery. Nothing will stop Biggle from making that critical repair mid-flight on the " Soaring Pretender" if he thinks it means life and death. Being rather dramatic, this happens more often than one would think... Liggle; by far the most ironically named, and the largest of all the gnome brothers is Liggle. Being somewhat thick, but sturdy, Liggle could half pass off as a halfing or a dwarf, and often is the pair of legs in the other elf the brothers usually pose as. 8. Team catchphrase
in full elf garb posing as Cerloyne and Welldyn "Have you heard of The Pretenders?" [to random person] "No?" "Good. Neither have we." 9. Anything elseStraight up Scooby Doo style shenanigans; you name it; falling down stairs / crashing into things / discovering the elves are actually 2 gnomes on each others shoulders

Team A: Order of Black Fist Stone
Racing was created by Kord when he challenged Fharlanghn to see who could circle the earth first. The winner of the race varies greatly depending on who you ask, but the Order of Black Fist Stone will race anyone who questions Kord's superiority at racing! They got their name for the Fist sized black stone Kord won as a prize for beating the obviously slower god.
Black Fist Stone still rely on the strength and guts to defeat their foes. They think the 'pretenders' cheat by using their machines and technology, but since the gods have cursed gnomes with inferior bodies they accept their tools as an adequate handicap.
**1. Power Source**
The chariot of the Black Fist Stone is pulled by 4 Dire Razorboar! Razorboar are one of the only living animals that can survive the grafting of adamantium to their bones (necessary for the rigors of the races) thanks to their regeneration, and the metallurgists often enhance the tusks and enchant them with magic.
These pigs of fury are so quick that to initially capture them they must be pinned with ballista bolts. Once captured the Driver of the Black Fist Stone sled must wrestle the boar into submission. Once that is done the driver becomes their alpha and can use them in a race.
**2. Construction Material**
The charred wood used to heat the alter of Kord is used to create the beams for the sled, And the beams and various stress points are reinforced with adamantium.
Wheels are for weaker creatures! And besides with the violence and force the Razorboar pull with they would snap off anyway....
**3. Propulsion System**
Razorboar, the driver's will, and the blessing of Kord!
**4. Driver** Grund Steeltusk, the thoroughbred rage-machine. Son of human priest of Kord, Cane Steel, who ripped an owl bear in half with his bare hands. And Qarth Tusk, the crazy orcs woman that broke Cane's arms in a wrestling match winning his love.
During Qarth's last race, she died giving birth, but that didn't stop her from winning the 345th championship.
Grund, followed in Qarth's footsteps and claimed the title of Driver of Black Fist Stone.
**5. Weapons**
Have you ever been run over by a 3 ton pig? What about 4 of them? With magically tusks that erupt flame? If that doesn't kill whatever is in Grund's way his mace of ruin does triple damage against vehicles, structures, and constructs. The mace is made from the bones of his mother Qarth. He always keeps his mama close by.
**6. Navigation**
Grund has two ravens that fly above cawing out various things like 'good direction' 'bad direction' 'jump ahead' 'plow through this' etc.
**7. Other Team Members**
Grund currently has his father maintain the sacrificial fires to Kord during the race. A Druid helps maintain the sled and Razorboar. And a halfling metallurgist handles all the metal work (he's not entirely sure why he works for Grund either)
**8. Team catchphrase**
The three most common things yelled by Grund are: 'Built Kord Tough!' 'Run 'em over!' 'Graaaaaaah!!'
**9. Anything else**
Kord did win the race. Those priests of Fharlanghn are liars!

Team D: Fellowship of the Cryptic Academy
"First of all," the lich grumbles, pouring wine through his jaw onto the table, "lemme jus' say, it wasn't supposed to be 'Fellowship of the Cryptic Academy.' It was just--" He emits a sound like strangling a wineskin full of air. You're pretty sure that was supposed to be a burp. "It was just 'Fellowship of the Crypt,' but when I saw the catfolk, I started to say, 'Ick! A cat-demihuman!'--I'm allergic, you know--but the human copied it all down. I caught it while she was writing, but of course by that time, the quill had already stained the vellum, and me being a first time racer on this circuit--"
1. Power Source (who even knows!?)
"Right to it then, eh? Well that's a fine la-de-da. Didn't even let me finish..." The lich trails into grumbles before a noise like soft wind blowing through rotting leaves escapes his chest--was that a sigh? "Well, this thing's powered by bound elementals. You see, I've got earth elementals for ground movement--movement through the ground--air elementals for flying--the wings are just for show, you know--water elementals for--"
2. Construction Materials (wood, metal, magical force, etc)
The lich drains a long draught of wine through his face onto his newly wine-colored silk vest. "I see how it is. No love for real craft. Anyway, as you can see, it's a dragon skeleton. Animated it myself. Affixed a nice black iron throne between the shoulder blades--lifted from Castle Blackwell a few centuries back, if you remember that nice little ruin. The black iron chains I use as reins I picked up from the portcullis there. Bolted 'em in right underneath ol' dead red's horns. It's not the tightest steering but the image of me in that throne, rattling the chains as I spur the dragon on is just so striking that when I'm up there thinking about it, I just have to laugh, and--"
3. Propulsion System (engine, wind into sails, treads, wheels, etc)
"Okay, you're right. I droned on just now." The lich offers a polite bow. "I'll try to stay more on-topic. As for locomotion, red's legs don't work so well, so I bound the earth elementals to them. That way the legs don't have to move for the craft to move. On the ground we simply glide with the dragon crouched as is, and we can go underground if necessary. The wings extend, but flight is actually provided by the air elementals bound to them. Putting them out is for show, but what a show it is. Water movement is certainly not my favorite, since I tend to get picked at by remoras, but the water elemental bound in the hips takes care of propulsion there."
4. Driver
"What? Me? Doing this interview and you don't even know the Dread Rider, Malcroth? Well, let me tell you... First off, being a lich wasn't exactly my first choice of career. Or second. Or anywhere on the list, really. I had been a chariot racer, oh, say, probably about thirteen hundred years ago, now. I was a champion racer, a hero among men. In my advanced age, I thought none could beat me--and, in fact, none had until my farewell exhibition match. I was thrown from my chariot after a collision with a demigod. Don't know if it was kindness or cruelty, but he granted my last wish: to live to see my next victory." Malcroth shakes his head. "Haven't won a race since."
5. Weapons
"Ah, the lovely bits." Malcroth's face contorts. It's either a grimace or a smile. Probably a smile. Probably. "Here," he points to the ribcage, "my crew awaits their deposit upon the unsuspecting heads of my enemies." Several skeletons wave their hands and chatter their jaws within the ribcage. Each carries a weapon and wears a tattered set of armor. "Picking them up afterward is usually a problem. Reassembling them even more so."
Malcroth points to a black iron structure atop the dragon's spine just in front of the hip. "That is the arbalest emplacement. I had it installed about a hundred years ago, but my crew kept dropping the bolts during sharp turns, so I haven't made much use of it lately."
Malcroth stands in front of the dragon skeleton, and stands with arms wide, staring with lidless eyes at the skull of the dragon as though praising the sun. "And this is my pride and joy. Red's skull is fully functional, and her fangs are as sharp as they were in life. And I've bound a fire elemental inside it, so she still breathes fire, too! The only problem is--and don't tell anyone this--using my main weapon gets me a bit turned around, see. Turning her head to attack turns her. Then there's a little confusion on which way we were going--she gets confused, not me, mind you. I know exactly where I'm going, and I have to turn her back in the right direction because she--"
6. Navigation
"What? Ridiculous! I have an excellent sense of direction and always know which way I am going! Forward!"
7. Other Team Members
"Well, I've already introduced you to red," Malcroth begins, and takes another long draught from the bottle that is now clearly empty. "So I suppose I'll introduce you to the rest of my crew. This is... um... Timmy," Malcroth says, gesturing to a skeleton with studded leather armor, a kettle helm, and a short sword. "This is... ah... Jimmy." A skeleton with chainmail and coif, a mace and shield. "...Johnny..." Sallet, brigandine, axe. "...Clyde..." Barbute, club, ring mail. Malcroth's brow would surely be furrowed if he had one. The last skeleton, wearing only a winged great helm and carrying a stout branch, loses its arm from the weight of the branch, then its head from the weight of the helm. "...And this one's... a problem. Okay, no, I don't know any of them. Never had need of naming them, either. Just give me a few moments to fix this and I--"
8. Team catchphrase
"--Or I suppose little Tommy's head can wait for later." Malcroth scoops the skull back into the great helm and hands it to the one armed skeleton. The other arm comes loose. Malcroth purposefully ignores it.
"You may have heard that I say such things as 'No, forward is this way!' or 'Brainless fools! Work!' but it simply isn't true. Mostly I just laugh while I'm in control up there, or perhaps shout 'Wail, craven! Malcroth approaches!' or 'I will end you!' as I pass others by."
9. Anything else
Nothing else.
"What? Not even a goodbye? Uncouth little--"
Nothing. Else.

Team E: The Angel Dragon
1. Power Source (who even knows!?) Fresh meat works fine.
2. Construction Material (wood, metal, magical force, etc) Giant Crabs. Six legged wagons scuttle along at high speed.
3. Propulsion System (engine, wind into sails, treads, wheels, etc) Six Legs.
4. Driver Guy with a stick dangling a piece of fresh meat in front of the crab.
5. Weapons Two big honkin pincers!
6. Navigation Driver has eyes and a map.
7. Other Team Members Two other guys with short bows cause muskets make the crab relieve itself.
8. Team catchphrase Angels and Dragons can't stop us, we're the Crab!
9. Anything else This team (Xantho, Rania & Dromia) are Lizardfolk. Some say they have a great idea. Some say they've baked their brains in the sun. On the side of the crab is painted picture of a dragon with an extra set of angelic feathered wings. The team claim the this creature came to them in a vision and told them about the glory of Crab. The crab will flee from fire or giant octopus.

Team C: Divine Honor
1. Power Source (who even knows!?)
This team has found a power crystal that is empowered by prayer to the deities of the world. The team consists solely of clerics and paladins for this very reason.
2. Construction Material (wood, metal, magical force, etc)
Wood, as it is a very humble material to build with, which allows the crew to focus more on their prayers and less on any sort of flashy surrounding.
3. Propulsion System (engine, wind into sails, treads, wheels, etc)
The power source connects to a complex system of magic circles along the floor of the craft, which allows it to levitate well above the ground and move at swift speeds without any friction of the ground, or water, getting in the way.
4. Driver
Sir Gregory Firehand - A Dwarf paladin who figured out the best way to steer the craft. By operating various levers, the floors with the magic circles will raise or lower, altering the craft's trajectory. For instance, if the right side is higher than the left, then the craft will turn left. To increase the speed of the craft, the front sections need to be lower than the rear sections. To slow down or go backwards, the rear sections need to be lower than the front sections. And so on. The further they are apart, the faster the maneuver happens.
5. Weapons
Elora Stormcaller - An Elf paladin who specializes in ranged weapons. She has found a way to harvest some of the power of the crystal in order to create a magical turret under the belly of the craft. This turret can swing around in any direction and fires spiritual energy as a ranged attack. If they need a little more oomph, Elora feeds some of her divine smite into the attack, adding a bit more bite to the already devastating attacks.
6. Navigation
Franklin Devon - A Human cleric who has studied the stars his entire life and has figured out handy tricks to navigate by the constellations. During the day, he is able to tell an accurate heading based on the time of day, the position of the sun in the sky, as well as the position of the moons. In times of cloudiness, he eventually will rely on his backup compass, but that tends to bore him more often than not.
7. Other Team Members
Skip (Skippy) Tenderhorn - A Minotaur cleric that had both of his horns broken off in a battle ages ago. Since then, his taste for battle had subsided and was replaced by a taste for cooking. He found a way to use his divine connection to create some interesting dishes, which earned him a spot as the ship's cook.
8. Team catchphrase
"By the power of the gods, we fly fast, fight hard, and never give up. May the gods have mercy on our competition."
9. Anything else Skippy has been experimenting with a sweet, creamy dish based on a very delicious consumable called a peanut. The crew has been known to spread this on their bread in lieu of actual butter.
