Ep 116 suggests playing around with the lore of the origins of the Tarrasque in your homebrew settings.
So this is my proposed origins for it in my homebrew setting of Ragnogov.
Homebrew Story Context
The BBEG from the main story has been stealing mortal, Fey, and Fiend life energy and claiming it as his own. The Gods delayed to long in taking action about his terrible offenses to the Cosmic Cycle and by the time they took action (inspiring the group of PCs to adventure) the BBEG was already powerful enough to consume a lesser Gods life energy.
At first the Gods thought that this would solve the problem. The first God he consumed would take control of the mortal vessel and transfer it's consciousness to the BBEG and that would end all their problems dissolving the BBEG's mind and will.
They thought wrong. The will of the BBEG is not dissolving, but rather the Gods consciousness faded away and now the BBEG is wielding the power of lesser Gods.
Tarrasque Origins:
The group is collecting fragments of a homebrew Rod of Law, and according to myth should be able to defeat the BBEG if they use it against him.
His humanoid form will be powerful and dangerous, but more clever. Defeating his humanoid form with the Rod of Law will release stage 2 of the encounter. I'm thinking an overwhelming un-embodied force of Karma and Chaos will convert the BBEG into a Tarrasque once the Rod of Law is used on his humanoid form.
Consequences:
So this is my proposed origins for it in my homebrew setting of Ragnogov.

Consequences:
The gods the BBEG consumed leave open seats in the homebrew Pantheon, potentially allowing PC's to claim cosmic chairs as new Gods.- The Tarrasque will go down in history as a myth of what happens to mortals who abuse cosmic law to slay Gods
- Allows for a recurring Tarrasque attack in future campaigns where players will be familiar with it's origins and have had PC's involved in its origins.
