I just discovered the podcast yesterday and I'm already completely hooked. I'm new to D&D and am playing with an entire group of newbies (4 others) as well, which is brilliant because they are quite forgiving My hubby played once as a teenager and asked if we could give it a go as an interesting switch from our usual tabletop games nights. I'm currently DMing the Starter Set: Mines of Phandelver campaign. We're into week 8 and so far, so good. I love DMing but I'm also really looking forward to being a player at some point soon as well. Great to meet you all! Please feel free to send any advice my way if you have played this campaign before. (my party has completed the first 2 sections and is headed towards Cragmaw Castle)

Welcome, to the forum and DnD in general!
I would definitely suggest rotating the DMing duties at first, even if it is just one stand alone night each. It will give everyone a chance to experience both sides of the screen and the different perspective it brings.

I probably should have looked into that sort of advice before we started - unfortunately, I read through the campaign in its entirety because I was so nervous about taking on the role, so I'm the dedicated DM until the end of this particular campaign. However, the good news is that two of the other guys are super keen to have a go at it, so they are going to share DMing for the next one we do. Luckily, I love it and I'm having so much fun as the DM,so I really don't mind.

I think reading through the whole campaign was probably a good idea. That way you know the general direction of things and can eventually steer back some players who might not stay on task! If you have any questions many of us have probably asked the same ones!

Welcome to the Block Party! Always a good day when another person joins us! I agree that letting others take turns being the DM is great so that you can have a break and others get the DM perspective like 00dlez mentioned. I also agree with drdroost that reading through the whole thing is a great thing to do and really helps with running premade adventures. You could let someone come up with their own adventure idea that they could run as a single session. A cool battle royale at a little bit higher level, so on and so forth.
