Okay, so first, a little backstory on the world.
Draconic pantheon consists of three deities (they're more powers than gods, but let's call them "deities"): The Obsidian Dragon Lash'Garak, The Alabaster Dragon Panlortor and The Ruby Dragon Marnira. The first two are locked in an eternal struggle, which, in fact, was what created the world (it's a long story). Marnira is keeping them in check for them not to tear each other into pieces.
At one point, after long period of tension, a war broke out between gods of the human pantheon (aside from the three deities, being fundamental forces of the universe, there were other gods) and entities known as The Elder Ones. The disturbance in the fabric of reality this created was enough to let Lash'Garak slip out of Marnira's grasp and begin creating a physical body in order to influence the world directly.
This was discovered by a powerful group of mages known as the Covenant. They reached out to the warring sides and presented the real threat. They found the pocket dimension in which Lash'Garak was forming a material avatar and encased him in a prison formed from a substance Elder Ones pulled from the Far Realm. The trick with it was that there was a set amount of it in existence and once it was divided, the pieces became indestructible. Only bringing them together would make them shapable again. The severed piece (much, much smaller than the prison) was given to the Covenant for protection, as they supported neither side of the conflict. It later came to ne known as Skallagrim or Orb of the Prophet, depending on who you asked.
And here is my problem. My initial idea was that the Skallagrim was shattered in some unspecified point in history and the Big Bad is trying to collect the pieces in order to release Lash'Garak. However, if the pieces were to be indestructible, how was the Skallagrim shattered in the first place? And, more importantly, if it could be shattered, why can't the prison be? Does anyone have a solution to this dilemma?
