So last night I decided I wanted to make a race, for no purpose other then making it. I based it off of a concept art I found Online which I'll attach to the end of this. The original drawing was an alien race but just seemed fitting. Ulna
The Ulna are a small humanoid race that inhabit the forests of the land. They live in small hut-like structures that they build in trees. Their settlements typically are not visible from the ground. Instead of building connections between these platforms and huts they use the branches of the trees to climb or swing their way across. Although this may seem like a challenging task the Ulna have no difficulty with it because they have four arms. Ability Score Increase- The Ulna have a +2 Dex Age- Ulna have a shorter lifespan than many other races. They generally mature by age 14 and generally do not live longer then 65 years Alignment- Ulna tend toward a more tribal community which causes them to lean more towards a chaotic nature. Size- Small, 3-4 feet tall, 60 Ibs Speed- 25 feet Languages- Common, One additional Proficiencies- Acrobatics Extra Arms- Due to their familiarity with using their arms in tandem, Ulna can use large weapons regardless of their small size. Just treat two of their arms as equivalent to two human arms in this situation. This would mean that they can use all four of their arms to wield a two-handed weapon. Tree Dwellers- Ulna treat Athletics as a Dex skill when swimming and climbing Tribe Mentality- Ulna gain advantage in combat when adjacent to an allied Ulna Flight Refusal- Once per day when an Ulna is below half health it can choose to refuse to run away from the enemy it is currently fighting. The Ulna cannot run away until they have won the fight. They gain proficiency on attack rolls made against this enemy. Extra set- The Ulna’s extra limbs allows them two additional ring slots Feedback welcome. Oh, here is the drawing.

I am thinking (mostly as a player here) how fun it would be to be a creature with an extra pair of arms... ... so many ideas.

The funny thing is that was my basis for the whole thing in the end. I ended up searching for different things like "four armed race" or "four armed humanoid concept art." When I saw this picture it just seemed to fit what I was looking for so I went with it. My concern with homebrewing is always attempting to uphold the fine balance that keeps things fair.
Also, fun fact Ulna is the name of the bone that runs along the pinkie side of your forearm. Four Arms = Forearms. A bit of naming humor is always fun.
What do you think of the racial traits etc?

There seems to be a lot of that naming humor flying around. Arcwelon, the god of dungeon mastering name comes from Acwellan which is the Old English word for 'killing' dreadfully ironic. I love the extra arms trait, though if they can use these arms for a huge sword couldn't the hold Four short swords or knives how would that work? Overall awesome idea!

Actually, the holding for swords thing did come to mind when I was creating them. The thing I would say is that they can do that. However, that doesn't mean they can use all of them to attack in a round. They don't have extra attacks or anything like that. This was a trait I considered but being able to attack extra times would make them a bit overpowered for melee classes.
Also, just noticed your favorite class. Nice.

The Extra Set bonus is beast mode. I think it offsets only having the +2 to Dex, and then some potentially at higher levels. Potentially having many attacks could come with feats, and notable negatives akin to the progression of two weapon fighting. I really like the role playing aspect that comes from Flight Refusal. All around a solid race, not sure if it's totally balanced, but I really like the look and feel of it.

All around a solid race, not sure if it's totally balanced, but I really like the look and feel of it. I actaully originally had an ability +1 to wisdom but got rid of it for that exact purpose. Glad it did what I was hoping it would. I also figured on the feat thing coming up later on as a cool bonus for the paticular race with feats. As for flight refusal I thought of it because I was trying to think what kind of people they would be in a fight. The thought occurred to me that fight or flight is generally the choice being made and that perhaps the Ulna could be fighters regardless of the fact that their first instinct would likely be to run away. From there it was just a matter of making that into a tangible ability. I'm hmgkad you like it. Like I said, I really just put it together to pass some time and practice my homebrewing skills. Now that I've left it and come back to look at it I've actually become pretty fond of the race as a whole. It is definetly up for consideration of being added to my world.

They have a really good feel to them, and could be an awesome set of NPCs to interact with especially if a player of yours picks the race. Just me, but they seem like the kind of race that either frowns on people leaving, or specifically sends chosen people to adventure.

Just me, but they seem like the kind of race that either frowns on people leaving, or specifically sends chosen people to adventure. I guess I'd say they are a bit secretive. They tend to avoid outsiders when possible. However, if they trust you they are very welcoming and accomidating. They are not known for their individual stregths and tend to use numbers as their advantage. However, the stongest amongst them often leave to seek adventure. They do not frown upon them, in fact, they revere heroes of their race highly. Although the are secretive they love when one of their kind is recognized by others as an adveturer or hero. The do also send some of these individuals out to complete tasks and such but that is more of a case by case basis.

To run off the Ulna is a bone in the forearm and having not read a ton of the dialogue here, They could be half of a symbiotic society with the other half fulfilling some tasks that the ulna really struggle with and call them Radians (radius and ulna, both bones of the forearm)

I am considering having them be long armed instead of having two sets of arms. They would maybe have more reach and such...

They could be wacky, wavy, and inflatable! I think it would be awesome to have them living together in symbiosis, especially if you could work in tactical advantages that they gain from working to fighting together.
