This weeks episode is another awesome divine spotlight. I am about half way through it and already generating some great ideas and additions to the gods of my own world and I hope all of you are as well. I thought for this weeks edition of DM-nastics we could do something pantheon related. This one will work a little bit differently than the past DM-nastics as I hope to make it a co-operative endeavor. Below will be a list, the items on that list will be the building blocks of our new god. Each person who replies to this thread will take the next part of the list and add their idea to it. In the end we should have created a completely original god. 1. Name 2. Domain(s) 3. Symbol(s) 4. Core tenet #1 5. Core tenet #2 6. Core tenet #3 7. Name of worshippers. 8. Name of Clerics. 9. Name of Paladins. 10. Name of Realm where god dwells. 11. Name & Description of relic filled with gods power. 12. Name & Description of artifact filled with gods power 13. Name & Description of holy day #1 14. Name & Description of holy day #2 15. Name & Description of temples. 16. Name & Description of ceremonies. Ok that is 16 items if we need more I will add them. But this should give us a fun community exercise in creating a god. So the first person to respond to this thread gets to name the god. The second assigns its domains, the third its symbols, and so on. I hope this works and in the end I will compile it all to give a full info block about the Block Parties god. Have fun with this. So many epic and great posts!!!!! Arcwelon, God of Story and Storytelling. His domains are knowledge and tempest. He often takes the form of a gigantic old wise turtle. Arcwelon's symbol is that of a bisected rectangle which represents an open book, often decorative items have turtle themed designs and details. The three core tenets of the faith of Arcwelon are as follows, every story contains some truth, no matter how small or large, remember the past, and to seek and collect the stories. Worshippers of Arcwelon are called Seeker, the clerics are called Curators and the paladins of Arcwelon are called Stewards of the Yarn. Each temple to Arcwelon is a giant library, it is in these libraries that clerics of Arcwelon place all the stories and books they have collected over time as well as where they keep and write their own stories. There are two Holy Days celebrated in honor of Arcwelon and the first of these is The High Chronicle. The High Chronicle consists of both feast, and legend, all culminating in the Great Memoir which is grand story telling challenge. The realm in which Arcwelon dwells is called Ismeret, the realm is woven together out of all the stories ever told or known. Link to DM-Nastics Segment #4

1. Name: Arcwelon, god of the Story and the Storyteller. This also, incidentally, makes him the god of Dungeon Mastering.

2. Arcwelon is the name of an extinct sea turtle which is the largest ever recorded. Therefore my image is kind of like a wise old turtle that at first glance looks like an island. Playing off the storytelling aspect and the turtle origin of the name I would say that fitting domains would be: Knowledge and Tempest.
Just would like to add that I love this idea. The only thing it is missing building blocks wise is the gods appearance. I would say that this impacts future points so I'll give my input. I picture Arcwelon having two forms, one being the old wise turtle island I mentioned before, and the other being an old man with a matted beard that has pieces of seaweed in it. He looks like he would have a hoarse voice but when he speaks it is deep and enunciated. If you think I gave to much info by giving a description of appearance just ignore what I wrote here and write your own.

3. For my setting, I like to keep religious symbols at a simplicity on par with Earth symbols (ex. Cross, Star and Crescent, Star of David). Thus, I propose Arcwelon's symbol is a bisected rectangle, to represent an open book. Ornamental and decorative symbols are often embellished with turtle themed details.

If I like this god(which so far the outline is really cool) I am going to put it into my Pantheon.

Quick Note: There are still 13 blocks to go so please keep this thing going. Group contributions is one of the things that makes this forum as amazing as it is. If you are waiting to post or are not sure what to post here is a tip for the next three blocks. A tenet is "a principle or belief, especially one of the main principles of a religion or philosophy." So, what would Archeleon's Tenets be like? Likely they would involve storytelling and stories. So as a jumping off point just answer this "What principles does a good storyteller have?"
(I realize it has only been 11 hours since the last post but judging from the amount of views this thread has I'd say people are waiting for other people to do early blocks so that they can do the later ones which they think are more fun to do. Also, if you are reading this and you have not yet made an account, make one now and use this as an opportunity to get involved in this great community.)
Also, to DM_Mainprize I love your DM-nastics they always get my creative juices flowing. I hope other people keep seeing the value in these and keep up the great work.

I will hit up Core Tenet #1.
Core Tenet #1: Every story contains some portion of truth, no matter how small or large.
Being the god of stories and story-telling. Arcwelon has infused all stories told with some tiny tidbit of cosmic truth that when study and examined told and retold will reveal itself to teller or listeners.

Core Tenet 2) Remember the past.
Some stories are simply for entertainment, but most stories exist as examples of lessons learned by the previous generation. They must not be forgotten, lest the new generation repeat their ancestors' mistakes. His devotees are not just storytellers, but story collectors.

Core Tenet 3: Seeker of Story.
A devotee of Arcwelon is charged to always seek and collect unknown or untold stories. Thus, they may be found wandering abandoned ruins of lost civilizations seeking old stories, in small village taverns chatting with old farmers, in the courts of high kings and nobles, on the front lines of wars.
Seekers are also charged to record their own story. they can be found adventuring and participating in stories of their own to add to the ever growing Song of the World.

I'm also going to hit #15 while I'm at it.
The great temple of Arcwelon is The Library, a vast, ever growing complex of towers, tunnels, and protective walls in which is housed the Song of the World; the archived collection of all stories ever known to the initiates of Arcwelon. Smaller temples may be found in every large habitation across the world, but all are charged to deliver, by magical or mundane means, all stories collected to The Library. These smaller temples are known as libraries, and often serve a dual function as a temple and as an actual library for their community.

#7 Worshipers: Seekers.
#8 Clerics: Curators. Tasked with the day-to-day collections of fables and lore, Curators are often mousey, studious types, but those with adventure burning in their veins can often be found wandering the lands, seeking out knowledge of fables both true, and false. Bards often find themselves inspired by tales found within the churches and temples of Arcwelon, and many an adventurer has found that healing from a Curator, needs only be a good tale or story away.
#9 Paladins: Stewards of the Yarn. Try and talk crochet and knitting to a Steward, and you'll oft find their dry sense of humor cutting your way. These Paladin's have a love of humor, both at at other's, and their own expense. Ironically however, they have little time for true friendship, since their devotions to lore and legend rarely allow them to stay in one place for very long. Their core tenets allow them to maneuver between lies and truth (although most lies are considered benign, and only used to embellish a grand tale), and thus Bards find them exceptional adventuring partners, as do Rogues. Adventurers lucky enough to befriend a Steward, often find a companion for life.

Haha, I was thinking about going after the followers, and that was pretty close to the vibe I was thinking. However your #9 hit awkwardly close to home for my personality, haha. I feel compelled to play a Steward of the Yarn any and every chance I get now, haha. So now we have 1 through 9 and 15 done. I'll take 10 and 11 then to help keep things moving along. Will post soon. I was thinking Neutral. The tenets say nothing about doing good, or creating good story outcomes. Only collecting and participating in story. So, a follower may not intervene in a horrible situation just to see how the story comes out and record it. Individuals could be CG, or really any alignment. But the deity and religion strike me as "other motivated".

Yeah, I would lean towards Neutral Good. Good in the sense that the god wants the stories to be as true as possible, but will take a mostly true story over no story at all.
