I had thought about doing something akin to a ranger group/troupe of some kind, but we have done of few of those. Instead, I thought that giving more life to the sometimes forgotten animal companions that rangers have would be a great exercise in helping our players have a better experience. Either through advice on how to flesh out an animal companion, or how a great NPC does it. So, grab a pic and talk about the animal in the picture. It is up to you how much or little you want to talk about the animal handler. 1. Animal companion's name 2. Where did they meet their animal handler? 3. What special attack do they like to employ? 4. What weird quirk do they have that helps make them memorable? 5. What is a time they almost died? 6. What is a time they saved the day? A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. That should be more than enough pictures, but if not I will gladly find more!

Oh, you want to know about Brum? Not to worry, she wont bite you unless you have goblin-blood of course *chuckles* Aye, She has a taste for them goblins, not surprising considering I found her while clearing a cave infested with the darned things, there she was not even a cub, see the goblins had taken a pregnant she-bear and nearly starved it to death to keep it docile, I figure they wanted to tame them, but goblins you know they arent exactly the smartest and a fair amount of them had angered it. No matter, there I was in the cave seeing this dying bear, clearly on her last step of labour and there was just so much blood pooling on the cave floor, so I figured i'd do my part to help her by cutting out her cubs, sadly two of the three were already dead in the womb, I figured Brum as a goner as well but then it squirmed, I quickly took it with me to a druid I know feeding it what provisions I could.
Well I guess you could say she imprinted herself on me, and I guess all the goblin blood must of done something cause she grew faster than any bear I've ever seen and bigger to boot! But dont let her size scare you, for even if she can tear a grown man in two she'd rather just play with her ball and let the kids ride on her back.

Going for F - Elven Druid with Shrub Critter.
This is Cyath, full name is Cyath of the shadow by the third stream flowing after ice actually. We met last year in the woods while gathering herbs for the market. She bowed to me and has been following me since. A week later I was tracking some Gnolls but fell into their ambush. Cyath tripped two over with her vines, she is so stealthy its freaky. Just before the trip I smelt a musky smell Cyath released, it's how she communicates. Musk for danger, mango for happiness, almond for confusion, lily for sadness.
But those Gnolls hacked into her pretty bad with their axes, such foul creatures they are. I managed to tangle them with more vines, grab Cyath and ran for it. I managed to mend her wounds and we rested up a tree for the night after we disguised our scent with wolfsbane. The next day the Gnolls were out looking for us, I managed to take one down with my staff, but the other knocked me to the ground. Just as I was about to receive another hit from the gnolls club, Cyath bashed the Gnolls groin and I finished it off with a dagger.

This is a forest of gold cored trees I had in my homebrew world. The idea of adding treants and having them form a symbiotic relationship with the wood elves that protect it I think is a great addition. So even though lil treant guy had been done before I had to do one for my own world also. Also a squeaky treant sounds weird. And a few more of the people. A narcoleptic strong cat, a sabertooth once used for evil and branded for its life because of it, and a rude bird that saves people sometimes. *edit: Also one of these wasn't listed, but the picture looks super cool. Also there are some misspellings like neurotic, bleh. cba

B is for Badger, right? Anyway, here goes!
"Hi! My name's Dromo , at least that's what my person companion calls me. she was asleep on the side of the road when I met her. It looked like she smeared raspeberries all over her face, but it didn't taste like any raspberries I'd ever eaten. I tried waking her from her post-berry nap, but no success. I tried dragging her back to my home, but she woke up half way there. I decided that this person certainly couldn't eat berries correctly, so now I travel with her, making sure she doesn't eat those bad berries again. After traveling together for a while, she taught me how to retrieve the sticks she shoots from her hand weapon, but she wants me to push in before pulling them out. When we are eating, I always like to make sure she is watching me before I'll eat my food, so she can see how to eat berries without getting them all over your face."
One time, Dromos handler's crossbow misfired. Dromo faithfully followed it down the pit it fell in, unfortunately right into a gelatinous cube. He was rescued, but had a much shorter haircut. Dromo was able to save the day by being able to fit through a crack in the wall of an otherwise inescapable room being filled with sand, and finding the lever that opened the doors.

We are the guardians of the woods, Master and I. Master calls me Lucky, a name I like. Master answers to Willow, but Master is what I call her. When I was a pup, still squirming at my mother's side, she came. One by one, my brothers and sisters found masters of their own but I was small and when everyone else had gone, I was left. Then Master came. She was small too, small for the folk, just as I was the runt of my litter. From that moment, Master and I were one. Now we guard the Wild and the border with the Other Lands from trespassers, something Master has always wanted.

I love the pic of the corgi mount!!!!! Also I got one more for fun. Having something like a blink dog for a companion always seemed awesome, so when I saw Lycan and his smokey mane'd wolf I thought it would be even cooler. Also I have noticed that I treat all of the animal companions as having intelligence higher than they should probably have... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *edit: fml I should proofread more, there are misspellings on this also, lol.

1. Animal companion's name 2. Where did they meet their animal handler? 3. What special attack do they like to employ? 4. What weird quirk do they have that helps make them memorable? 5. What is a time they almost died? 6. What is a time they saved the day? I didn't have a name until I met my Dwarf, he is called Torron Ironstone, and he named me Stonejaw; though he calls me Stoney. My Dwarf found me when I was young and my mother was dying. I though he had come to finish my mother off while she was injured; so I attacked him. Even after biting and scratching him, he still saved her life; the least I can do now is protect him My Dwarf uses a strange and loud weapon, that kills from afar but sometimes that is not enough, when it sounds I run towards them so that if it doesn't kill I will rush them, biting and dragging them along the ground while my Dwarf gets ready again. Our attack doesn't always go well, I remember once when we were hunting, we awoke an ogre with my Dwarf's weapon, as I charged the creature my Dwarf had attacked, the Ogre came out of it's hole and hit me with it's club. I remember nothing but pain for many moons after that but I survived so I may continue to protect my Dwarf. Once the weapon of my Dwarf was stolen by goblins, I was not aloud in the town so I was waiting outside when a cart of Goblins rolled out, I could faintly smell my Dwarf and the black powder his weapon uses with the Goblins so I followed them. The Goblins had taken my Dwarf's weapon, so I attacked their cart and took it back; my Dwarf was very pleased to have his weapon back. Although we don't often travel far when we go somewhere new I like to take a something home with me, my Dwarf doesn't understand it but he knows it make me happy.
