An item that I made for my 5e campaign was to help the part keep watch at night as my world is fairly dangerous. This item is a stick with a twistable knob on one end, the other end goes to a point. When the stick is planted in the ground it acts like the Alarm spell but the threshold is in a 30 foot radius from the stake. The knob controls whether the alarm is made audibly or inside the mind of the individual who planted the stick.

Awesome, would players going out and back in set it off? Just thinking of funny scenarios when players go out farther to check on something, or go relieve themselves. Then they come back and set it off causing issues for themselves. Ways to make it not be fool proof would be interesting to add in. Great item though to help them not be so terrified each and every night.

I think we ruled that you chose which creatures could be ignored, up to a set number.

Does it work against all creatures? or just say magical threats? perhaps Lycans get past since it senses them as animals?
Does it work every night? or maybe not on certain nights with lunar conjunctions or sacred to certain night/darkness deities?
If you want it to be commonly available, perhaps lower its cost by giving it charges, such as 50 charges standard, but can be recharged with alarm spell when pcs rest for winter?
