So I will be picking up the D&D 5 edition books soon and I am plotting out some ideas for campaigns. The latest idea that I had centered around Vecna as the main villain. That being said, when I think of Vecna, I'm thinking uber-Lich or Demi-God at the most, not the God of Secrets that he is in Greyhawk.
I thought that a good Lord of the Rings style quest would be for one of Vecna's artifacts (the Hand or Eye) to fall into the hands of the PCs and they would have to go on a quest to destroy it. (The downfall to this is that one of the PCs could decide to maim themselves and install the artifact).
As for Vecna himself, I thought that he could be ones of the ancient Sorcerer kings of Netheril (they're all supposed to be Liches anyways.) He would have four goals.
1. Conquer a kingdom as a power base, then begin building an army to conquer the world. 2. Recover his hand and eye. 3. Find the Scepter of the Sorcerer Kings 4. permanently kill Kaz and destroy his sword. (He's bound to show up, he always does)
His minions could include all sorts of undead including Death Knights and Dracoliches. He could even send minions looking for the Dragon's Graveyard so he can raise and army of undead dragons.
What are your thoughts?
