We all fit around this one pretty well even when we've had big games but we also have seats and couches all around it. I just like DMing while sitting in a recliner. What do you mean by a nice cover for the pool table? Additionally, what method, if any, do you use for mapping out dungeons? Also for mini's we use Heroscape pieces which a couple of us had as kids. They are the same size as normal dnd mini's. Tip if someone is making one of these tables is to draw the line first in pencil then in sharpie (measure twice cut once mentality) also make sure that whatever mini's you use will fit in the squares you use. images.amazon.com/images/G/01/toys/detail-page/heroscape.jpgA link for anyone who doesn't know what they are. We are all poor college kids so we are a bit frugal when possible.

The cover is a think foam insert that sits into the table and makes it flush and has a leather top to it. For mapping dungeons it depends. I will often make a graph paper representation if we lean more towards theater of the mind. Sometimes I will draw things out on the Megamat I have from Chessex. For my latest game in the Emerald Spire I have the pdfs for the flip mats produced by Paizo, so it's pretty nice as those have everything drawn out on them already. I hadn't heard of Hero's cape before, but what I did for some of my minis is bust off Mageknight figures from their click bases and put them on regular bases. So this thread has me thinking, what do you guys do at your table to keep track of who or what is under the effect of which conditions? do you just try and remember? or do you have tokens or markers that indicate when a certain person is frightened, grappled etc. ? I'm pretty old school. Most of my games are Theater Of The Mind (TOTM) style, so not much mapping on the table. On the occasions that I do map something out, it's usually a sketch of the rough area with X's where monsters are, and the initials of the PCs on a grid paper. Then it's erase and re-mark time when things move. I'm not too terrible a stickler on if a PC is precisely within the exact number of spaces away from a creature to target. If there's a jumble and the Wizard says "I want to cast ____________ at the Orc Shaman. Am I within range?" I tend to just make a Yes/No call based on how the fight is going, and what would make for a better dramatic story. Sometimes it's yes, other times it's "No, you have to make another move this turn to get within range." As to effects, that's on the players to remember. Though I do make a note next to their name in my binder.
