Hello, everyone! I am new to the forum AND tabletop RPG's And I'm currently in a campaign with four people (Not including the DM) and the DM seems to be getting burned out on being the DM one or twice a week (We're really enjoying the story and his DMing style, so we try to set up next sessions ASAP.)
And my current DM and I kind of mix and match, then add our own rules to our games.
So, he gave me the idea. "Hey! You and ___ were making a video game series, right? You should turn that into a campaign. And we could flip flop between our two games." And sounded like a brilliant idea... Until I realized I have NO idea how to promote my game without giving spoilers. But, I would also like your feedbacks on the actual story I would be setting them in, pretty please.
First campaign, anyways. If I put the ENTIRE series into this campaign, we wouldn't even get a quarter of the way through. For I got the tip from my current DM, every campaign should only be in three parts Figuring out what the problem is, what you can do about the problem, and finally actively resolving the problem.
The ENTIRE series of my world is spiraling into the abyss(Figuratively.) for it was a prophecy by the elder gods that "The Chosen One" would rise, once the twelve lords have become one with the world(That they'll die.) And to sign that this prophecy is coming true, these ten lords are drawing into madness, beginning to fight each other, or if they can't, they go down a path of self destruction (And the players can either push this prophecy or stop it, if they decide to help or destroy each lord.) But the "Chosen One" is burdened with the task of 'This world has far outlived what it was meant to.' so when he arises (IF he arises.) he would attempt to destroy all life.
(Backstory of the actual area they'll be traversing in the first act.)
BUT for my first campaign of the series, the players are summoned for a great disturbance in a forest called "Palace of the God-Hunter." Or Cas'el Thes Pali." by some cultures. (This forest, lore-wise, is larger than any kingdom of the world. Because Kieton, of the twenty-seven swarms went mad before all the other lords and killed two of them. He was actually the weakest of the twelve lords until Malumia, the strongest of the twelve pulled Pulcha, mother of the Ab'Dem(Insects.) from another dimension. She birthed an heir to her throne, and Kieton, in his maddened state, experimented with this creature, turning it into a god-hunting nightmare. And the beast was slain after devouring two of the lords, and the forest grew upon it's corpse and power. And all those tiny insects? They were the first to absorb that divine power, and became the most dominating animal in the forest. Spiders the size of cattle, ants the size of wolves, beetles the size of rhino's, etc.
NOW where do the players come in?
There has been a recent increase of activity coming from the forest. In fact, there have been numerous villages destroyed in mere days as these colossal insects have raided outside the forest in a desperate attempt to find food, or simply enraged from a sudden imbalance of the forest predators.
The players join a group which are headed towards the "Obnix Tribe." a village of brutes that seemed to be able to ward the insects efficiently, as they have used the forest as a 'proving ground' for the last many generations(Their test was that the deeper you enter the forest, the stronger fighter you are, more worthy of being the next chief.) to question their current chief as to if they have any idea what is going on.
When they arrive, the village is destroyed, as it would seem the insects have even managed to take down the village that was capable of warding them off, as they explore (As I'd assume they would.) they'll be ambushed by a few generic insects. But they find a few survivors. The survivors have numerous speculations "Bug king want us dead." (They would be referring to Lord Kieton.) "Sick bug spirit back, he want revenge!" (Referring to a sickly child who was incapable of glorious battle, like the rest of the village.) and finally. "Big bug! It starve other bugs, other bugs hunt us." which they are referring to Diplopendra Mutatis, a 30 ft long millipede / centipede hybrid disrupting the natural balance of the forest. It has the thick exoskeleton and acidic secretions of a millipede, but moves quickly and has venom-filled forcipules like a centipede
Which it would be up to the players to go in, and deal with Sick Bug's spirit, deal with Kieton, and destroy the Diplopendra Mutatis
(Not in that order, but depending on order, there will be new issues deriving from the two / one that remain(s) and there will be a secret ending / boss fight if a certain one is to be the last they deal with.
I have numerous encounters planned throughout this massive forest, countless varieties of enemies, at least ten "Bosses"(Because they're optional, for the most part.) seven different attribute check encounters (What would those be called? In video games they're called quick-time events. But.. Yeah, don't know what to call them all my DM guides don't really mention them, unless I just don't remember so. I have, of course, had this entire map blue-printed for a video game, until I realized that the rest of the group seemed to just... Give up on it.)
Feedback, questions, please let me know!
