A buddy of ours was able to make it to a character creation night and then couldn't join us for halfway through the main campaign. We sold it as the group found him in locks outside of town put there by a group of thugs who wanted him dead. They took his gear and his family heirloom. Thus, we found the "perfect" weapon for our happy go-lucky dwarven cleric.
The Crotchety Warhammer of Xenophobia
A fierce +1 Warhammer, crafted generations passed by the legendary Rufus Grimforge; a cranky Dwarven blacksmith whose craftsmanship is known still all along the Sword Coast. He harbored a deeply found resentment for all things elven and this hate seeped into what would later become the Grimgorge family heirloom; a daunting Warhammer with ironically beautiful gold filigree.
The weapon itself has a special attribute found when in the heat of battle. If the hammer is used on an elf, the weapon does and extra 1d4 bludgeoning damage; but only if a curse is spoken slandering Elven kind. If the wielder fails to say said insult, the weapon grows angry and resentful and does 1d4 psychic damage to the wielder.
If an elf (full blood or half) tries to use the weapon, they can sense the weapon's bitterness toward them causing -1d4 from their attack roll. The rule for damage still applies, thus they may have to insult their own kind.
Basically, his attacks looked like: "Take this you... pointy-eared flower muncher... I am SO sorry-" SMASH
