I was kind of in thinking mood., just thinking about when I ran Pharaoh and how I was more prepared. All the characters were given a choice of a camel...or a horse, well...My sister who played a sorcerous didn't tie her horse up outsiode the cave they decided to rest in for the night. So, I decided "OK. Dont tie up your hourse?" I did a roll to see how the horse would react...and sure enough, it bolted! Well then one of the characters who saw it decided to run off after the horse, by himself....Big mistake in a wide open desert....Well, this character is trying to catch the horse and the horse is going fast, it hasnt exhausted yet...But because he ran off from the party, I decided a little lesson was needed....I through out a purple worm. Of course, I did not realizwe how overp owered this thing was compared to my party of level 1's...I believe it was level 5 or 10 ? I cant remember now.....Well, after 2 members almost nearly died....needless to say, they did defeat it. It was funny the reaction "where the hel did that come from?" and then the party deciding on their own they needed to stay close...The horse did end up getting caught, but once the party stuck together & worked together to get it back...*sigh* no idea why this little story makes me laugh, but thought to share it with everyone else Definite story of awesomeness! That was the second game I ever ran So....tell me, in a situation like that would you have done thingsz differently? what would you have done in a scenario like that? Just for general conversation I have learned...sometimes you have to teach players the lesson the hard way...In this case, stick together, work together, it will pan out...Go off on your own and you could face certain death. If the rest of the party was not alerted by the ground shaking...the one who ran off could have died.
