So, me & my family (the ones who game) tend to take turns running a campaign, I just recieved my book today for curse of strahd that my husband bought me as a surprise due to my obsession with Ravenloft (Go figure, Im obsessed with vampires) and I was looking in it trying to figure out how I should break it down. I dont want my games being too short, but I dont want them being too long feeling like Im taking over the running when we all take turns. My turn is up in 3 more turns (I like to start prepping ultra early for whatever adventure im running next! I found I do better that way) after my brother in law is finished with temple of elemental evil...so my question is this, to keep it on an in between type deal so its not to long, not to short...anyone have any ideas how I can break up the book in away. I was gonna do just one chapter at a time, but it appears the chapters might make the game too short....Any ideas of advice that you can help me with? (Note: Before I actually run curse of strahd, I plan on running its introductory adventure....Death house), so any ideas on how to do this? If you need me to clarify my question I would be happy too! and sorry if I seem to ask a lot of questions. I have only ever run 2 games...so im still new at being a DM and usually lean on my dad ALOT who is a seasoned DM., but hes at work right now...and I know he would tell me I just have to figure that one out....lol so Im hoping for a better answer then that Preferably from someone who has the book and might be able to give an informed answer ,though having the book is not required to answering my question if you have an idea for me! Help?

I dont have the book, but I hope this could help. Most stories have 3 acts. Beginning Middle End, with a start a climax and a resolution at the end. Is there a way to clump the chapters or story together in this fashion?
As a side question, did you like Dracula Untold? I wasnt sure what to expect but really like some of the things they did and some of the ideas they added to the collective Vampire mythos.

I never actually saw Dracula Untold! I want to so badly....But from the looks of it, its suppossed to be the story behind Vlad the impaler....just fictionalized I guess you could say. I know others who have watched it....and I might be able to clump them together! so like....3 chapters then let someone else take over, that actually sounds like a great idea I will check to see if that works well and puts a good stopping point for someone else to take over (Oh we all pick a campaign and run it...so Once I start curse of strahd...no one else will finish it but me...Not like we plan it that way, but it works. So I should be able to clump them together like that and see if that makes it "Just right"

After reading your response, I went & took another gander, and realized some chapters are really long! and some aren't, so I lumped like....Chapters 1-3, that would be a decent size and a decent stopping point to pass the buck on to someone else, Chapter 4 would be run by itself cuz that is long! and the actual Ravenloft adventure. Thanks for your help in helping me out with that I have a word document where I organized it & made notes in it to be able to remember how to break it down to be fair tyo both myself & my family.

Sounds like you have it hashed out where you will do the break points, and that sounds like an awesome group you have where you toss around the game running responsibilities. My only caution to you woudl be about Death House as it is very accurately named. There are some heavy hitting monsters in there, especially for a 1-3 level party. I would be ready to either tone it down, or revise it in a lot of ways. Can't wait to here how your game goes!

Thats wierd my post didnt post. LOL I was saying., Yea...Im ultimately excited to do that one, but it will be some time before I do that one! First I gfotta finish deserts of desolation series, I got 2 more parts to that one, and I believe you were the one who commented on my ravenloft 2 post? anyhow, Ive decided not to run that one, to much headache more mistakes in it then I can count...Oh and the fact its not actually written by the original creators of Ravenloft even though their names are on it./ Their names are on it because they gave permission for it to be....*sigh* But thats ok~ I will be sure to let you know how death house works for me when I get around to it In the meantime....Im gonna start prepping for Oasis of the white palm & working on getting it converted to 5e, getting all my ducks lined up in a row!

Looking for some advice about playing CoS. The 3 seeds that were creating the wine. One seed was stolen 10 years ago and it isn't mentioned where it went or who has its possession. I'm pretty anal about this stuff and need to know where its gone, who took it and what its being used for. I had some ideas but nothing I am settled on. 1- kept in the Strahd treasury/ Wine cellar (but why would he never go back for the others) 2- used to power one of the golem brides being created. 3- lost in the mountains or woods with dead adventurers who succumbed to greed.
Even if my party never finds out about what has happened I absolutely need to know hahaha. Any feedback welcome and appreciated.
