I listened to this episode last Weds. evening and spent the next day mentally simmering the contents since I was running a game that evening. It came in handy because we had a classic "players do zany sh*t" sort of session. I try to give my players the lead as much as possible and they're a wonderful group of three whose characters grew up together, so their character dynamics often carry the game. Anyway, my biggest take-away from the episode that played out on the table was the simple "yes, and." Because they're such wonderful, creative characters they always seem to come up with impossibly ridiculous and heroic ways of responding. Rather than debating "should that work? Is that fair? Are there rules for that?" I took the stance of responding "yes" and then buying some time making some random dice rolls in secret while sorting out the success and unintended consequences of their shenanigans.
As a newer DM who's more story than rules oriented, this episode affirmed many of the techniques I've been intuitively using...and that gives me more confidence bringing those to the table. Thanks!
