Hello gents. I heard a less than stellar review of the DM / multiplayer mode for the pre-release version of the game. Any of you hear anything else... maybe even had a chance to play it yourselves?

I haven't seen any glowing reviews, but it's hard to tell if it is the vocal minority or not. Seems like the multilayer isn't as compelling as people had hoped as that was what most expected to set the game apart. We are super close to wide release, so who knows! I didn't pre order it like I thought I had and at this point I plan on waiting until it is out and reviews have been done. Still hopeful it will be awesome!!

D&D is a turn based game. Going the pause-and-play route makes it way too video gamey, way less TRPG-y. I would have much rather seen something along the lines of Divinity: Original Sin.

Yeah, and I think that this is where some of the more vocal people are coming form. The people that are heavily invested up front are most likely D&D/TTRPG veterans of years, or decades. The hope would be a very close translation of 5E into a video game al la the old Baldur's Gate games, but it isn't that from what I have seen and heard. The toolset for the DM doesn't sound extensive either, but all of this could mean nothing once the game comes out. I would LOVE to have all the tools one could want in that game to be able to build out some amazing dungeons/modules or more likely just download some amazing ones by other users, haha. Maybe, if nothing else, it will get some more people into the TTRPG hobby, and that is always a good thing.

I almost pre-ordered for my son and I but now I am glad I didn't. The Tome Show's D&D V&G podcast gave a pretty harsh review of the pre-release but they were hopeful that the full version would offer more. We shall see.
