So I was looking for a table top roleplaying game with a little more japanese flavor, then the traditional WRPG and I found this one. It sounds amazing and I am going to certainly give it a try. It sounds as if it adds much to the collaborative nature of RPGs (but it certainly does not sound combat-centric). Here are a few things about it: -Experience is gained in Ryuutama primarily by making difficult journeys to new places, far more than monster slaying. -Magic is based on seasonal essenses, and focuses on the classic creative use of magic to overcome problems, over combat-themed spells. -Combat is simple and fun, featuring a classic console style "Front/Back Line Battle Mat" -The players at the table have a hand in creating the towns that their characters visit together, so that everyone has an interest in the next leg of the journey! -Critical fumbles (rolling 1s on both dice) hurt, but all the characters at the table get a bonus to a future roll in return. Also, the game focuses on players who are normal characters, rather then wizards, barbarians, etc. Players can be minstrels, merchants, healers, hunters, artisans, farmers or nobles. There are tons of other interesting ideas that this roleplaying game has, so I suggest looking into it, I certainly will be. www.drivethrurpg.com/product/151366/Ryuutama--Natural-Fantasy-RoleplayAlso, here is part of the Ryuutama website which outlines all of its unique elements: kotohi.com/ryuutama/unique-elements/Anybody have any other ideas for Japanese flavored Table Top Roleplaying Games?

Legend of he Five Rings!! Check out the One Shot episodes. Super dramatic and intense RP. Fantasy Flight recently acquired the rights to L5R, so there may be new and cool things on the horizon.

-Experience is gained in Ryuutama primarily by making difficult journeys to new places, far more than monster slaying. This sounds like the perfect game to run an exploration campaign. It is. And apperently, travelling is a huge part of the exploration. If the players don't bring enough food, water, or even animals, they can die easily. One of the coolest ideas coming from this RPG is the "World-Building Sheet". It is like a character sheet, but you pass it around from player to player and they each design an aspect of the world. So that everyone can have a place they are interested in exploring. Pretty Awesome. As for Legend of the 5 Rings, I have certianly heard of it. I was even more excited when FFG announced that they bought it. I am hoping for a Star Wars type system for non-scifi campaigns (outside of the Warhammer one, which is too expensive and has a slightly less polished rule set). But, I didn't know there was a one shot episode, I've got to check that out!
