Do you guys looking for Pen and Paper games have any good gaming shops near by? I know several by my house, (I'm in the DFW area of Texas) have boards for people looking to play, etc, and often times have games going at the shops themselves. (I say this, having never used one of them for finding a group, just know that you can.)
Hell, make some of those little flyers where you can rip of 10 strips with your @twitter name or email on it, and stick them up at Starbucks, and local game shops. That is risky as to what you will get in return, but sometimes one is all you need to build something bigger.

well, my burn out led to my game actually falling apart. Well that and most of the players are stuck in the "3.5 IS THE ONLY SYSTEM TO PLAY, THE REST IS ****!" probably due to their previous DM having some weird AoO rules.

There's one in my town, but I stopped by and it looks like it's 95% MTG, which is fine, but not really promising for players. The one two towns over is quite busy and does a lot of table top, but I really think I can find 3 or 4 players in my neighborhood where it makes it easy to get together. I think there are a lot of secret D&Ders just looking for a table in the world, many of whom end up on forums reading and posting and wishing they could really experience it. It's just hard to actually get a group, big time commitment from everyone.

Could always try craigslist, search or post in Groups or other appropriate subsection. I attracted a few good players that way, though we never got anything started due to scheduling conflicts.

Nevvur has the right idea for sure. Even though your FLGS came across as 95% Magic that might be because when it is Magic time it's MAGIC TIME!! I know that nation wide Friday nights are Magic nights as per Magic, so I would definitely try posting there at the store if they allow for that kind of thing. A local library could be another great place to post something, or a comic book store. Specifically getting people from your area could be harder, but there is likely some internet medium by which your community interacts, as that apparently is happening far more than I would have guessed it does, haha.

The WOTC forums have a "Gamer Classified" section. I've had success with it, though you'll need patience. Replies don't come terribly quickly. community.wizards.com/forums/102561

We've had some luck with finding groups on meetup.com We haven't used it for a few years but that is how we stumbled into our current group.

Speaking of meetup (and I don't know why this jogged my memory), but sometimes Obsidian Portal has gaming groups around the area who are looking for new people... I think.
