Hi folks! My two commanders are putting together plans for mass combat scheduled for this weekend on FG. Last weekend was a set up sessio . Map... easy to draw up right in front of the players.... discussed victory points and other rules / house rules like adding terrain masking if applicable.... downloaded and made the beta rules avail from Unearthed Arcana... set conditions and basic storyline behind the battle... used notes capability to document discussion for future reference. Only challenge was how to most efficiently design NPC units then assign / link to commanders.

I have a Mass Combat scenario going up on Roll20. Haven't had near enough time to finish it though. I'm looking forward to it, however.

I haven't tried these rules, but just read through them again and they seem really solid. A good mix of the mechanics the players should already know and mass combat added in. They seem similar to the mass Com at rules from the miniatures line D&D put out a few years back. Objectives and victory points and the unit structures. I think though that the DM description is what will really sell the feel of a large scale battle more than any rule set will. I'm interested to hear how the players enjoy the mass combat hawk and DMC.

Prior to finding FG, I checked out R20 due to being accepted into a fledgling DM game that never materialized. Anyhoo... what are some pros cons to R20? Sorry about the rabbit trail...but inquiring minds want to know.

Pros: 100% free for players and DMs alike. There are two paid levels ($49.99 and $99.99 per year), but they aren't necessary.
Cons: Must input all creatures/characters manually. Stats, items, etc.

Speaking of FG...I downloaded the demo through Steam, and have tinkered with it, but when I went in yesterday, I got this message. Not a darn thing has changed on my system from when I first downloaded it. What gives???

Yikes! Not sure. I run a 64 bit machine so I have to watch out for that... not sure if FG even gives the option. Do they? Oh... I am on tonight BTW if you want to join me.
