Swallowed stones of illusion/polymorph?

I had this idea for a magical stone that when you swallow you 'become' whatever it is that is etched into the stone.
The plan is to add them as a dwarven item to my world I'm looking for ideas of both what could be on them and how exactly the shift happens after you swallow the stone. (I want there to be the possibility for a relatively bad result)
