My players defeated a Young Blue Dragon and a Wyrmling in their last session (after a tournament arc so we got to have an anime-esque cavalry arrival of the NPC combatants to help take down the dragons, pretty cool.) After the fight, they harvested the nose horn and some scales and went to a blacksmith to get some items made. They can't afford either yet, but have made it perfectly clear that they intend to have the horn made into a warhammer and give it to the cleric. And I love that. Here's what I came up with. They get to have it when they can scrounge 2500 gold to forge it.

Absolutely awesome idea!! I love it when players actually think of what else a monster can be aside from exp. Sometimes the treasure is not the most valuable thing from the hoard, but what is actually protecting it.

If you want to you should make there be multiple power levels costing different amounts of gold (I think adding a growth spell power up would be awesome!!!)

This is so good. The art the build, the ideas here on the forums. I agree that upgrading over time akin to casting at a higher level would be a lot of fun. Especially with the bolt of lightning, and then more tempered with the added lightning damage per hit. The other option I thought of was the extra extra damage on a crit, or a chain lighting option on a crit. No matter what I'm sure the players will love it.
