So I just listened to the Death and Dying ep 9. and had some ideas for death and dying in my campaign. I would love to get some feedback and if this isn't the best spot for it let me know.
I'm playing 5e and its with some first time players so I want to give them a chance to learn and grow with their characters. I had the idea of giving all the players the feat : Heroic Destiny
Feat: Heroic Destiny
Fate, the Weaver, a God or just plain luck has shined down upon your character because you have a greater role to play in the events of the world.
~ When a player has been instant killed by having his hitpoints drop to 0 and the remaining damage equals his total hit points make a Death Save if passed then begin the death saves as usual, if failed you are dead.
~ When making death saves you gain the lucky trait and reroll a roll of 1. Thus the only critical failure for death saves are if you roll two 1's in a row.
~ On your third and final failed death save, if you fail, make one more death save immediately, if you pass it counts as a passed death save, if you fail you die.
~ When your Heroic Destiny is fulfilled you lose this Feat. The DM will determine when the Destiny has been fulfilled.
The idea is to make death harder to happen for the players, giving them more chances to survive until they complete the story arch. It is super important that the DM set what the Destiny is at the beginning of the campaign and drive the characters to that destiny. The rules give the player a chance for instant death as well as removing a string of three bad rolls kills you or even one crit fail and your ready to give up. I have assumed that my players will all have this feat so that no one player will be elevated above the rest. Please shoot holes in this and let me know what you think.
