Hey guys! I listened to ep. 175 a while back and it planted some seeds. Now I'm considering roping some childhood friends into a Discord game and playing this idea out. I'd love some comments, feedback, and suggestions.
What I'm going to give each player to build their characters with is a bit of background info and two questions.
Basically, the players will start as galley slaves aboard a pirate ship. I'm picturing this world they're in as having two main continents (at least where the action is happening for now) connected by two long island chains: one in the north (which is viking flavored) and one in the south (which is tropical yarr pirate like). The southern passage along the islands is popular because it has so many safe harbors and supply stops on the way, but it's also notoriously dangerous and full of pirates on the stretches in between. Many shipments bring military escorts. But each of the players took a gamble on an unescorted passenger ship and got themselves captured, destined to do nothing but row the oars day after day. Speaking between slaves was not allowed. So here's what I want them to answer along with their character backgrounds: Why did you take the risky route and get on that unprotected ship? How long have you been a galley slave on this ship?
So potentially, some characters could be a few years down there, and others could be new captures from days ago. When the game starts, the ship will get wrecked by a massive tropical storm. The party stumbles out of the surf onto an island. As they reach the sand, they are faced with a single wild-eyed pirate cracking a whip and ordering them to their knees.
First objective is to find a way off the island and back to a civilized port. Deep in the jungle, there just happens to be a violent tribe of lizardfolk cannibals whose chieftain's longhouse is an overturned cargo ship...
So yeah that's kinda what I got so far. I don't even have a BBEG and or main plot planned out. I'm kinda toying with the idea of having the great ocean in the middle of the continents and the islands have a sort of atlantis or r'lyeh sunken city right dead center. I kinda figured I'd let it go organically and work from player backstories and tailor a central plot to it later.
