I will tell you my short story. In the very early 80's (a time before time... or at least wireless cable boxes) My father bought me the original Red Box starter edition of D&D. I read those books inside and out, I drew mazes and castles, I played the Electronic D&D maze game over and over alone in my room. It wasn't that I didn't have any friends, I just grew up in a very sporty neighborhood. Everyday I performed terribly at baseball and football and basketball, tennis and golf, but I had no one to share my love of adventure with. I tried and tried but could never get any takers. So my little red box eventually founds it way to the bottom of my closet... then to the basement... then to a garage sale table. I've always wanted to play... I have just never had the opportunity. Now, with my youngest a meager 12 months from graduating, my quest to find a connection to the hobby I never had begins anew. I will play as a motorized trash bin or mute armless robot, an oxen to pulling a cart or town drunk with with only his wits to survive. I don't care how I get to play, I am just excited to learn but I want to do so without interfering with anyone else's ability to enjoy their time playing.
That being said the Dungeon Master's Block, along with some live-play podcasts, have been a major influence in driving me back to my childhood missed connection!
Sincerely,
~Tom
PS - I was planning to run the Stranger Things starter scenario for my son and his friends and decided to pick a random live play on youtube. The Human Paladin is introduced and Low and behold it is the unmistakable voice of @cconowitch ... her paladin is hilarious!!
