Hey there folks! As one of the new guys around here, I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Andy, and I've been a DM for little over a year now. I used to play D&D and Rifts back in high school about 20 years ago with a couple of different groups, always as a player. As the years went on, the only other players/DM's that I knew moved out of state, leaving me with a D&D itch that couldn't be scratched.
Last year, I just couldn't stand it anymore, so I went out and picked up the 5e starter set. The next day I sat down with my wife, our 8 yo son, 13 yo daughter, and my mother, lol. The first session was a complete flop, so we started from scratch the next day, and had a blast killing the same goblins that ambushed us the day before. I invited some friends and their 2 kids to play, none of them with any RPG experience whatsoever. They we're immediately hooked!
As it stands today, I'm currently running 3 games (2 published and one of my own creation) and about to start a 4th game, introducing 2 new players! I found the DM's block about 6 weeks ago, and have been listening all day, everyday at work. I'm currently on ep.104 and will be caught up by the first of the year.
I would like to thank the hosts and guests for the amazing inspiration which I so desperately need as a new DM, and as a shout-out to joatmoniac and Morgan, I love the rotating labirynth, and plan to make a funtional physical 3-D map out of plywood to use with my PC's minis!

Man it sounds like you had the lucky draw of willing nearby players xD. Great to have you join us here in the collective. And please post pictures if you manage to get that rotating labyrinth working. That sounds amazing.

Oh I'll definitely post pics of the build and finished product. One of my players is into models and dioramas, so we plan to make the base with the rotating sections, then build up the walls and doors, and texture and paint the whole thing! It'll be setup on a 1" grid, which will make it almost 5 ft x 5 ft! Much respect goes out to rorrik for this ingenious dungeon, thank you so much!

5' x 5'!!! That matches the numbers I was looking at making it on a larger grid. I'd also be interested to see how you run it with such a large model. Are you going to give the players view of the whole map? I usually let the cleric have a vision of it the first night inside and then pretty much at will after that, so it should work fine to let them see it. It sounds like a huge undertaking!

Yes, I'm sure it will be quite the endeavor, but also a labor of love. I'm the guy who always needs a project to be working on, lol. All of my players have seen the drawing, as well as the sketchup file that I recreated, but as far as running it goes, I'm not sure how I'll do it yet. It's going to be a 5e game, and I haven't read through rorrik's material yet (I know what I'm doing after work, lol). I might let them see it during the game session, but I also thought of only letting the PC's see it at the end of the sessions. My group is great when it comes to not metagaming, so I'll probably let them see what's happening while we're playing. Plus I'd hate to say "hey look at this awesome thing I made! Alright that's long enough, stop looking at it, avert your eyes!" Lol!

Welcome aboard, and you are doing the lord's work in making that 3D version of the labyrinth! Can't wait to see/hear more about this. Also, Rorrik is the mastermind behind the Rotating Labyrinth, so he no doubt has some tips and tricks that may help along the way.
