Hey, everyone! I'm Greg: relatively new to DND and DMing. I played two sessions back in college, and a year and a half ago I picked up some cheap 4e books to start running campaign with some friends. I ran a pre-written campaign before doing a few home brews. Currently, I'm running three and playing in one myself, so I've been pretty busy! I'm the most experienced DM in my group, but I know that I have a lot to learn still and look forward to doing that here! I'll leave you with a few DND facts:
The Leader is my favorite role to play. I love playing bards, clerics, rune priests, etc. I've never felt the need to be at the center of the story or battle, and I really enjoy allowing other characters to thrive.
Having said that, I have a soft spot for the classic Ranger or Rogue. My play style in Skyrim, DCUO, and Kingdoms of Amalur fits those to a T.
I have found that my player motivations, like most DM's, revolves primarily around the story with a heavy emphasis on problem solving and exploring.
Sometimes I struggle writing sessions for my slayer and instigator friends.
I know that 4e is very battle oriented, so I'm very curious about 3.5 and 5 because I'm sure I'd like it even more.
I've also started reading up on Dungeon World and Star Wars:Force and Destiny. DND is still the only tabletop RPG I've ever played.

Running 3 games, you're a beast! That's a lot of work.
I honestly have zero experience with 4e. I used 3.5 in my campaign currently but only because it's what we've played for years and we all know it inside and out and have every book. I have played 5th a few times and I think it's excellent. Been running a long, low-magic campaign and actually planning on moving to 5th when we finally wrap this one up. Going to move forward in the timeline about 500 years and magic and some races have been reintroduced (which is going to be part of the climax of the campaign).
So, long winded way of saying I think if you're starting from only having played 4th, I would go right for 5th!

Two of the campaigns would work really well in 5th because they're pretty fast-paced (out of combat) and story driven. The third is just with two PC's, one of whom is very much a Slayer. He needs combat all the time, and I know he loves having at least seven moves to choose from every encounter. That makes planning easy because all I really have to do is plan the encounter and build the story around it.
It might be due to how I treat the races in my campaigns, but I like having the Elves separate from Eladrin in 4e. What other, if any, race changes were made in the move to 5e?

I don't know anything about races in 4e, but I know three changes from 3.5 to 5e. They added Dragonborn and Tiefling plus more sub-race options for the others. I know there's probably a lot more expanded by now, but that's in the basic PHB.
In general, character builds are a lot more interesting with background, race, and class all playing into it and much less feat dependent. Each class also has a lot more customization as they go, almost like build in prestige class options.
