So the mini I have prepared for this post is from the WoW board game from 2005. It's the Paladin mini Sir Brendan Lightstone!
So this step by step painting is done at the request of finallyfoundahobby so I hope you find this useful!
First up, I added some sand and stone to the base using a mixture of Elmer's glue (just the regular stuff) and water. The sand came from a volleyball pit at a park that I bagged up, so there's "affordable" options out there haha.
So you just take a roughed up paint brush and liberally apply the Elmers/water mixture then sprinkle a heavy portion of sand onto the base of your mini. Shake the excess back off into your sand bag. Then let it dry!
Next up is priming. I used a spray paint grey primer and painted the base. Here is a link to a .gif I posted of the process on twitter I don't have pics for all stages of this .gif for some reason? But I'll provide what I can.
If you ignore the orc mini, and pay attention to Sir Brendan frame by frame, here's what's happening:
1) The Sand and stone pic from above
2) The grey spray paint primer
3) Added a thin black paint-on primer to the base
4) Brushed on the Terminatus Stone Citadel paint
5) Brushed on a dry Terracotta Earth pigment then sealed it with the pigment fixative
6) Cleaned up the base, painted it dark black to make it classy, and started painting the boots black
Then detailed his chain-mail silver metallic silver, his shirt red, some leather bits brown, and his trim gold.
Next I used a Kieslev's flesh color for the face and started on his Maul
Then detailed his facial hair black, the camera got him on facial recognition here XD
Then finished detailing with eyes/maul/cape. Gave him a white cape with a dingy brown traveler's look to the bottom of it.
Then added Nuln Oil shade, and green basing grass using the elmers glue mixture again (be careful not to get your boots messy!) Then finished it off with a spray paint clear coat to preserve, protect and make it shiny!
