I've mentioned in other threads that I'm a new DM running the starter set campaign for a new group. The campaign offers starter characters to make things easier but my group chose to create their own. However, in order for their lives to tie in more closely to the story, I asked them to choose a background/personal objective from the pre-generated characters.
This is all well and good since it creates interesting conflicts and conversations within the party when the members try to direct the group towards achieving their personal goals, but now, one of the PCs has accomplished his personal mission and the player asked a very logical question: Is there some kind of reward or something since I've achieved my quest?
So...my question to you guys - do you reward players when they do this? what sorts of rewards to you offer?

This is an interesting concept. I think it makes sense to have things at the end of their personal quest. If there wasn't enough fulfillment for them for completing the quest then you could have some XP boost. You could have a item that they gain for completing the quest. The other option could be that they gain some level of personal notoriety in your world. This could be in the form of discounts in town, or followers, or anything else you can dream up.

They are all level 3 at this point. What do you think might be a reasonable XP amount at that level? After reading your reply, I'm also considering providing some kind of permanent bonus or a stats buff - but would that be too much? For example, one of the PCs just succeeded in re-consecrating a temple to her god, Oghma. I thought Oghma would bless her for that in some way but I don't want to be so generous that I create overpowered players.

Refer to DMG p.227-228 for blessings and charms. It specifically states that restoring a god's sacred shrine can be rewarded with a blessing, so. . .

A little follow up from last time...
1) PC who reconsecrated the shrine to Oghma: PC received a mental summons to return to the shrine (the party is still searching the same building), she walked in (along with another party member) and was greeted by a dramatic 'meeting with your god' scene and music. Oghma appears above the shrine as a silver scroll and delivers a booming speech. She then received a 'Blessing of Intelligence' (Oghma being a god of knowledge) - so permanent +1 to Intell. As well, any of her companions who came along and were properly reverent received the +1 Intell buff until the end of the day.
