Hello guys, looking for some clarification of between these terms in the PHB. Do they mean the same thing?
There is a monk ability called Stunning Strike it states that "when you hit another creature with a melee weapon attack, you can spend 1 ki point to attempt a stunning strike" so If I am a monk and don't use any weapons but only punch and kick things, does that mean I could never use that ability? or does my punch and kick count as a melee weapon attack?
There is also a feat called Charger, it states that if you use your action to dash and have moved at least 10 ft before dashing you can then take a bonus action to either make a melee weapon attack or shove an enemy. So same question, if you did this could you apply the bonus action and the +5 additional damage the charger feat grants even if you only punched or kicked the target and didn't use an actual melee weapon?
Thanks for your wisdom and clarification.

An unarmed strike is indeed a melee weapon attack. It is listed in the weapons section of the PHB. Another way to corraborate the idea is that in the MM things like bite, claw, and slam are all listed as melee weapon attacks. Hope that helps!
