Ok then, you're right, his stuff is awesome! I have a hazy memory of creating character sheets for that whole party in my lonely youth when I couldn't even find a group to DM.

I agree that the 2E art is really well done, but the 5E stuff seems a lot like a modern spin on it. Most of the internal artwork for the books went back to showing more actual adventuring rather than just single characters doing things.
I also agree that Todd Lockwood is amazing, and a pretty cool guy when I met him at DragonCon.

5e does have some amazing art (especially of elementals). I just don't care for the 5e cover art. Well the art on the cover is awesome, but I really don't care for having that much art on that much of the cover. 4e's starter set had better, simpler art I thought and 3.5e had the bookish cover and I think that was certainly the best one. As far as cover art goes.

New rendition of an old monster by Tony Diterlizzi. This is his most recent concept for a gnoll, taking a step away from the hyena-based monster imagery (looks like a were-hyena) to a more humanoid appearance. I find it compelling and inspirational; makes me want to use gnolls now, whereas before I found them to be sort of boring filler monsters.

This is an awesome new take on the Gnoll. I like it a lot more than the older version, because those felt so mindless and trivial. There was always something about them that was off putting about their physical appearance.

Don't get me wrong, they look cool. Its more about flavor; about them being unique monsters. They always felt like an awkward amalgam of orcs and werewolves and just never spoke to me as a monster I wanted in my campaign. The new imagery got me thinking of them being malformed humanoids with disgusting habits.
I love how art can influence and inspire people in different ways!

Werewolves and Gnolls are different, just as wolves and hyenas are different. Societal structures, etc.

So i was at Halfpriced Books yesterday and decided to look over what they had for D&D 4E. There was a guy there that saw me do that and he came up to takk to me.
"May I make a suggestion?" He asked me.
"Sure. " i said politely.
"Skip 4 edtion. I Dm a group of 3.5 and my players hate it. " he told me with a smile.
I replied back "oh I already play 4e. "
He was shocked "and you like it???"
"Yes, and I actually DM for a group and thry like it too" i smiled back.
"And they like it??" He asked
"Yes they do. " at this point i replied back "the game is what you make of it. If you don't like something you can just change it. "
We then chatted about our characters, new classes, and funny things that happened.
That is the beauty of d&d i think. Not one edition is better then the other because each edition can changed to your liking. You can take the best of each editon and make it yours.

Half-priced has so many great D&D deals! Just the other day I found an 'out of print' first edition companion all about Vikings and creating Viking Campaigns. And cheapie for such a hard to find book...

You can the best of each edition and make it yours. I think that's why I love 5E so much. It really did take the best of previous editions, for me and my table at least. I found a lot of the 4E stuff that I liked made it's way in.
