Here's a google drive link to the world I've been building, Sheth. There are two main continents, Etratia and Sumaden. Etratia is pretty well along in its development, I've left Sumaden more open ended for people who like to play the odd races in D&D. The world is undergoing a revision since I last put much work into it last year, so I'm not including the older lore stuff in the folder yet. I'll be updating those older documents more regularly, as I prepare to start a new campaign with some new players in the coming weeks. The map is simple, but pretty high resolution. Will be hard to read some of the finer text through google docs, but is very zoomable when downloaded. Let me know if you like my stuff and get some inspiration for your own work! Sheth

May I ask what software you used to draw your map? I have been looking for a decent map making software. I've tried AutoRealms, but found the UI rather clunky. I am a CAD technician by trade, so I am kinda picky.

It was all paint.net, a glorified MS-Paint clone. Tedious work, which is why it's a fairly simple presentation.

I used to work in AutoCAD for years back in the day, so the interface should have a very limited learning curve for you. I found it super easy and familiar to use. For floor plans, I used to use straight CAD back in the early 2000s. LOL Inserted blocks from various plans I was given (I work in the foodservice industry. Commercial refrigeration to be exact). Heh heh heh...

Thanks for the tip DMC. I've seen the Campaign Cartographer software before, but I've been daunted by the $45 price tag. I may spring for it after tax time, I've seen what it can produce, and its very impressive! I have considered using Autodesk software for my maps (I have full access to the complete Infrastructure Design Suite Premium through work), but I've been looking for something to create organic looking world maps. CC has a lot of nice textures and such built in to it, which I would have to create from scratch in Autodesk's software. Those line drawing look nice. I've considered drawing up dungeon and building maps using AutoCAD. I'll likely use it to create the Mountaintop Monastery that I may need for a later leg of our campaign. For now, I've been working hard to keep things "theater of the mind". I hand drew a map of the "known world" (meaning, the part of the world the PCs know), and my guys went ga-ga over it. Other than that I have kept things off a map (and, after a false start, off a grid) and just described areas. I've also had great success using maps found online and re-sourcing them for my needs. For example, the PCs are currently in a large cave complex. Rather than drawing it all out, I'm just using a map of the Devil's Ear cave system. I'll post any cool maps I end up creating. PS: Does Reverend Run DM as well?

Yeah, I've cannibalized various maps online and used them for my own purposes too. If it's a combat area, I just take the image and use the grid overlay tool found here. I use the plotter here at work to print all my maps out on 30x42 paper and it works great! I also use Roll20.net and their huge resource of tokens and the like..

lol, no worries DMC.
I'm writing up a module for level 1-3 D&D 5th edition, so talking map makers is still relevant for me. I've fiddled around with maptool some. It's a pretty decent map maker for dungeons and the like, and is open source freeware. Can also serve as a group tool for online play.

While i do use AutoRealm quite a bit i have to agree that its surprisingly cumbersome to use (oddly enough used to ACad release 14) i am how ever quite curious if Campaign Cartographer is indeed worth the purchase. At the moment i am running on roll20.net and i am mainly looking for something to create town layouts.

Regarding Campaign Cartographer: I'm not sure what the consensus is by the DMB staff on...well let's just say...acquired programs, that can be found on the web, if you're feeling Piratey enough.
