BanelingThis is a baneling. They like to give hugs. Ok but seriously, I plan on throwing some of these at my players next session but would like to add a simple modification/ addition. I would like any player who fails their DEX save to then make a CON save. On a failure, they become infected with Bane-rot, a disease that causes its victims flesh to rot. This would be something like losing X hp every Y hours.(numbers to be determined). Does this change mean I should raise the monsters CR and then have fewer of them in the encounter? Also any one want to suggest a cure for Bane-rot?

This reminds me of death dog saliva. Maybe check them out for ideas. They're in the back of the monster manual. I definitely think that would raise the cr, seeing as its way more likely to die.
If you don't want restoration spells to cure the disease, try having them find the ingredients for a rare potion, some flower at the top of the volcano or icy mountain or something. make it easy enough to get to that it won't take too many days that way the character doesn’t croak. Or, maybe allow them to regain hit points from healing spells and like 1 hit die worth per long rest. That way they can delay death but they'd probably be in a huge amount of pain or loosing a few dex or strength points due to rotting fingers or toes.

O I plan to do just that! I spent the past 3 days building a massive 12 page documents which is a list of every potion ingredient I could find on the internet. Witcher 3, Skyrim, Harry Potter, Minecraft, Herbs from tolkiens writing, WoW, Final Fantasy I searched far and wide to find as many as I could. Gonna use it to create a potion for this very purpose.

Ok, here is a little update. Dropped 7 of these on my players last night. The Ranger and Barbarian both took some of that sweet sweet acid damage, the druid and wizard kept their distance. The barbarian was rolling poorly and contracted Bane-rot, after the fight they took a short rest. The barbarian was shocked when after the rest he had lost hp due to the disease and the party is pretty concerned as after the next hour of dungeon delving he lost another point of hp. He has the most health to burn through, but who knows if they will leave the dungeon to seek a cure or try to finish it before he goes down for the count!
