Found this image and thought it was perfect to kick off building a samurai order for Dayeimbe. 1) Who's this guy up above? A normal samurai of the order, and elite warrior, or maybe even the founder? 2) Preferred alignment: Lawful Neutral - Lawful's a must with a code of honor, but neutral seems like a good place for a "Tiger" order, balancing between nobility and ferocity. - DMForeclosure 3) Edict of the White Tiger Pride, thy great enemy. Vigilance, thy true friend. Pain, thy wise teacher. Defeat, thy stern rebuke. Might, thy great illusion. Wisdom, thy true strength. Existence, thy one virtue. Death, thy only sin. - dmsam 4) Specialized skills: they are great at perception, maybe survival, knowledges, etc - galakan 5) Bonded mount: Each member of the White Tigers gets a tiger cub during their first days of training, both to stimulate discipline and to start the bond between them . The new recruits and tiger cubs are all placed together at the same time and the pairs are organically created. The ritual to have the tiger be their bonded mount is more in depth though. The samurai must carry the Blood of the Final Cut of a dead warrior from the Order of the White Tiger and stand in a secluded wilderness location, waiting for their tiger to be drawn to the scent of the dead warrior's blood. Once there, the living warrior performs a ritual linking the blood of the tiger, the blood of the ancestor, and the blood of the self, bonding the three until the living warrior's Final Cut's Blood is drawn. The living warrior gets a mount and the wisdom of a long dead ancestor. The dead warrior gets to live again in the tiger's form. The tiger gains increased intelligence, strength, and a hugely-increased lifespan. - DMForeclosure & Frohtastic 6) Notable members 6a) 6b) 6c) Eiko Katsuro She joined the order when she was young, hoping to fight for a cause for once instead of doing random mercenary work. She was brave and reliable and quickly rose through the ranks. She was especially adept when it came to her bond with her tiger Natsguo. Together they were a force to be reckoned with. Eiko was bold and headstrong. She loved to have a good shout and a mug of ale with the lads after a mission and was the classic gruff yet lovable mercenary type. Natsguo was extremely close with her and they went everywhere together. Eiko was tasked to lead a rescue mission into a dark fortress where a few of their greener members had been taken hostage. She and Natsguo, along with a few other members stormed the fortress, busting through the main wall and attacking the guards there. They hadn't anticipated the spellcaster however. One fireball took out half the party and a barrage of magic missiles, too many to count came their way. Natsguo took the hits for Eiko while she freed the newbies and he fell. It was all Eiko could do to get them and their tigers out as she watched her own companion fall. She swore an oath of vengeance and returned in the night to finish off the sorcerer who had felled her formidable beast. Afterward she noticed the tiger pelt on the wall. She took it, wrapping it around herself before fleeing into the night. Soon, she discovered that the soul of her tiger had been bound to the pelt somehow and granted her its strength in battle. - DM Rowan She's more mellow now, more stonefaced but she still takes interest in raising the tigers and mentors any young ones who show promise with beasts. 6d) 6e) 7) Why did they form? 8) Where are they founded? 9) Notable Achievements: Namely, they (nearly) wiped out the entire race of Gorgons (or Medusas, if you prefer), specifically because, in Dayeimbe, White Tigers are immune to petrification and similar conditions, and the bonding process extends this power to their bonded warrior - retsamnoegnud 10) Symbols and heraldry 11) Anything and everything else: Can't wait to see what awesome ideas come out of this one. Too much fun! Grab one and give it the info you want it to have, and don't forget to give others a chance to get into the gym and try their hand at the weights before you do another set.

Just to start things off: I like a nice Lawful Neutral for a samurai order. Lawful's a must with a code of honor, but neutral seems like a good place for a "Tiger" order, balancing between nobility and ferocity.

I like the idea of 6c having lost her companion in battle and maybe taken a level in barbarian? Like somehow she learned to harness her tiger's spirit for power

dmsam that's a super cool edict. Regarding the bonded mounts, I was thinking perhaps the quest to gain a white tiger involves a kind of ancestral reincarnation. You must carry the Blood of the Final Cut of a dead warrior from the Order of the White Tiger and stand in a secluded wilderness location, waiting for the tiger drawn to the scent of the dead warrior's blood. The tiger gains sentience and a hugely-increased lifespan.

(sorry if this is a bit of a ramble. I just got really pumped up with the picture of this guy).
1. Sarusam Hachimaru: Guardian of the Western Mountains.
Sarusam was born amidst a chaotic period in the Western regions of Dayeimbe. Warlords vied for control of territories by paving roads with the bodies of soldiers, and the smaller lords feared losing their farmlands to the more prominent clans. Any village that did not comply with the new order of things was burned and left as a smoldering message to those that remain.
As a young boy Sarusam's clan, the Narutaka, was one such target of a Shogun's fury. In the middle of the night his mother spirited him away while the thundering hooves of enemy cavalry descended towards his people. They fled into the shadowy embrace of the forest with the sounds of their friends and ancestors screaming behind them. For fifteen years they lived amidst nature, occasionally helping out farmers to harvest enough food to pay the tithe to whichever army held sway over the territory at the time.
The more time that passed, the more that Sarusam's hatred of the war and chaos around him grew until one day the final straw was snapped. During a harvest that Sarusam and his mother were participating in, a roving band of soldiers arrived and demanded their tribute immediately. Sarusam's mother resisted since there was no way to harvest that much on such short notice. Before Sarusam could move, one of the soldiers impaled her with his glaive and left her bleeding on the ground. It is said in legend that Sarusam used that very glaive to decimate the entire squad of cavalry before they fired even one arrow, however this story changes with every telling.
On this day Sarusam Narutaka carried his mother back to their home in the mountains and placed her at the center of the long deserted ruins. He leaned over her and wept for all who have been lost in this useless war. As he wept the spirits of the dead heard his cries and gathered around him. Feeling his fury and his lust for vengeance the spirits of his ancestors flew far and wide to gather the ghosts of all of the surrounding clans who were annihilated and they began to impart their wisdom onto Sarusam. Weeks passed as the spirits taught Sarusam all of the secrets of battle. At the end of it all he was Sarusam Narutaka no more, but has become Sarusam Hachimaru (or blade of the many). As a final gift, the spirits guided a massive white tiger to him and taught him how to tame the beast, and the Order of the White Tiger was born. For decades Sarusam gathered more to his side, and the White Tigers forced all of the armies of the Shoguns out of their land. Slowly, with the Order's protection, the people rebuilt and a sort of peace returned. To this day the Order remains an entity outside of politics or any one ruler, but keeps the lands of the Western Mountains safe from invaders.
(For some reason I was thinking that an Asian nation lives in the West in this world, just to shake things up. If there is canon for something else we can roll with that. Also I know we have a map thread, but I wasn't able to find a finished map of the world. Maybe I missed it. Do we have one?)

The "almost finished" map just got posted in this thread dungeonmasterblock.freeforums.net/thread/470/dm-nastics-33-1-map?page=4&scrollTo=8511 I'm sure it is somewhere else, but can't think of where, so posting it again can't hurt. Another idea would be to have the Order of the White Tiger have interactions with Barbarians of Northfell from DM-Nastics #40. They could definitely fit into the western part of Dayeimbe, upper western edge of the huge mountain range in the north. Lawful Neutral was previously established as the alignment for the order, and I think that is a solid alignment for the order. I could see the younger members having a more chaotic side as they try to tame the tiger inside them and the one by their side. DM Rowan you need to elaborate on that idea! It's an awesome one, and I think you should totally make more of it to help make the Order of the Tiger even better. Thinking about merging the two ideas to get their mounts. Essentially the initial getting the regular tiger when they start training, and the true bond ritual for when they are ready to be a true samurai of the Order of the White Tiger.

Just a question: can a real tiger hold the weight of a full grown man? If not they probably need to be an offshoot of tigers (a special breed of some sort) or magically enhanced.

okay thanks joatmontiac. I'll see what I can do.

Based on the edict from dmsam, did we want these guys to have a focus on battle tactics and out-thinking their foes? I am thinking this could translate into a bonus to like perception or something in mechanical terms.

I think that with the mount bonding process the tiger becomes more than it would naturally be. I put in the text "increased intelligence, strength, and a hugely-increased lifespan." so as to hopefully cover the craziness that is them being mounts for full sized men with armor. Based on the edict from dmsam , did we want these guys to have a focus on battle tactics and out-thinking their foes? I am thinking this could translate into a bonus to like perception or something in mechanical terms. I think that a focus on battle tactics and out-thinking their foes is a great idea. I can't envision that the order would be vast in number, but instead would have a small number of very elite warriors that can out think and out maneuver most any opponent that they face.

I can't envision that the order would be vast in number, but instead would have a small number of very elite warriors that can out think and out maneuver most any opponent that they face. Oooh an idea then. Maybe (since we have six pictures) there are only six members at one given time? Maybe representing the original clans of the area they protect? That way each clan has to perform some sort of ritual or rite of passage to choose their warrior? Also because of this they could each have a different fighting style that comes from their clan's heritage.
