I like how exhaustion and fatigue function in 5th Ed, as they are another thing you can lose in degrees like hit points. Another option beyond the conditions, which are just on/off. Has anyone found a custom 5th Edition character sheet that includes levels of exhaustion?

Do you guys find that it gets used very often? So far the only mechanics we've encountered where it matter are the Barbarian frenzy mechanics, and being deep under water. I'm sure there are more terrain considerations, but so far we haven't run into them.

I'm sure there are more terrain considerations, but so far we haven't run into them. There are also a few spells that can add levels of exhaustion. I believe there are optional mechanics surrounding forced marches as well. I haven't really used it in practice, but I like having it there. In theory, it can be used in a number of ways to show strain on a character. You just swam across a small lake, and you encounter a large force of goblins on the other side, armed and staring right at you. Roll for initiative. Take one level of exhaustion because you don't even have time to catch your breath. You haven't been able to sleep (take a long rest) in multiple days. Take one level of exhaustion. This will increase by one level each day until you can sleep. You've been carrying a load close to your max carry weight all day. Take one level of exhaustion until you can put it down and take a short or long rest. You emerge from the brothel in the dim light of pre-dawn. Your coin purse is empty and you haven't slept a wink. Take one level of exhaustion.Ok, that last one might have been a bridge too far, sorry! You get the idea though. I like the loose, optional structure of mechanics like this in 5e. They are not necessary or mandatory, and the language leaves usage up to DM and player interpretation.

I love the mechanic as well, and enjoy how loose all the 5e rules are as it gives me room to play. I just haven't seen this one used at all yet. I have only been running my campaign for a couple sessions now so maybe I'll try to incorporate it a bit more into my group. I'll have to wait on the right time, however.

Cool, thank you! If I was not terrible at graphic design, I'd just make one. I've almost been tempted to grab Sharpies and hand-draw one to use, but I'm not even artistic enough to make it hand-drawn and cool-looking.
