Hello all
I am hoping I can glean some advice from other GM's, as I am hosting my first mini-campaign for 6 guys. Two lvl 1's, one lvl 2 and three lvl 3's.
After dealing with some bandits as an intro, here is my starting campaign, though I am doubting myself that it should be simpler.
I'll summarise.
The party encounters a hunting party returning from a hunt.
The hunting dogs go haywire and try to attack the injured noble (who was hurt on the hunt). They notice the dogs have red eyes.
The party kill the dogs and hear of the trouble affecting the noble. Savage animals are attacking his property and a huge boar nearly killed him.
They accept a well-paying job and go off in search of the source or stake out his mansion.
If they track, notice a red-eye owl following them. They turn back when hopelessly lost.
Stake out the mansion of the noble at night, sure thing, a swarm of red-eye rats attack grain stores. They follow the rats back and are lead to a hulking mini-boss dire boar (night time), again with red-eyes, a fight ensues.
They find the source, a ramshackle house deep in the forest.
Upon entering they trigger an attack by a red-eye bear and wolves. The bear, when brought to 0 hit points, is actually a corrupted druid (blood druid). She tells how the noble murdered her brother and took their land, she was cast out, not enough evidence against the noble to get justice, so she is after vengeance herself.
The party can believe her and turn on the noble or kill her, or capture her.
They return to the noble to search for evidence or confront him. He was after their land for the dwarven ruins underneath. He had her brother killed when he wouldn't be intimidated to sell.
A fight can ensue here depending on how they handle it, featuring a sandstone golem.
Basically, I am wondering if I should simplify and have the town afflicted by an evil corrupted druid. Black and white, find her and defeat her. No sneaking around the mansion to find evidence and trying to catch the noble. bear in mind, I'm trying to let them meander and do things differently if they wish.
Any advice guys and ladies?
Thanks
