I'm excited to be here and I'm hoping I'm in the right place. If not perhaps I can get some direction. Here's where I'm at. I had been building ships in about five years. I built some tiny ones in one inch bottles and thought wow these would make great game pieces. So I explored naval war gaming which looked fun but, there is no one near me that does naval wargaming and even if there were with school, work and, family I'm not sure I'd have the time. So I thought I'd try gaming with my two boys. They are 5 and 8, both have adhd and one has a light version of autism. Trying to keep their attention while moving fleets of ships around a board was very much impossible. So I took a step back and rethought it.
I then created a game that was easier on their attention spans and ended up having a story aspect. I had initially ran scenarios but the story got deeper and I started running scenarios that focused on elements of the story. Pretty soon we were sailing around fighting krackens to get magical items in a quest to defeat the dark master who had taken over control of the puppy pirates. (My eight year old had that idea). Best of all my boys and I absolutely love this game. So now I find myself as a sort of dungeon master in a, half naval miniatures and half dnd light, sort of game. We defeated the dark master and I need help with ideas within the next story.
I'm hoping this forum can help me with ideas or else direct me some where that can. For now I'm looking for more conceptual type ideas. Mostly puzzles that I can incorporate into this games style of play. Let me know where the best place is to start. Also let me know if you need more info on the game. It is a weird hybrid but I do think it fits with in the DM style of playing.
Thanks!
