Hey! I need a bit of help working on a concept. I have a fun little set-piece I want to use that involves the party offending a passing mage/bad guy in disguise. He uses the cargo he was smuggling, corpses, as a distraction, floating them around the party's castle. In the mean time the mage robs the party blind. But I'd also like to tie our spellcaster friend in with the main villains of the game, fey mercenaries led by a half-dragon manticore. Can anyone think of a reason that a wizard would be carting around corpses for a bunch of fey, besides for food?

Flesh Golem replacement parts. Magical reagents made from spleen. Collecting hair for fantastic wigs. Skins for really terrible furniture leather. Collection of crazy secrets accessible by 'Speak with Dead'. Scam where they resurrect moderately well-off, and keep them as indentured servants to pay off the spell components costs. Mulch. Grisly human figure museum exhibit a la 'Bodies'. Necromancer fodder. Paid for burial in a distant land.
Some brainstorm threads for you.

They didn't. They're Fey. They just though it'd be funny to get him too dig up a bunch of corpses, a la Rocket Raccoon. Or they can use them in some kind of ritual allowing them to take on the actual shape of the corpses, skin-walker style. Better then disguise self because it isn't an illusion.

A little splash of necromancy with an MTG twist. They're used for creating Thallids. Which are used like cattle to harvest their magical spores.
