So, I'm not proficient in DnD artifacts at all so this might be something that already exists. If so, please let me know, otherwise, well here is the idea.
so, it's a pair of ordinary looking, little worn out gloves. Except that they are both for the right hand. What is special about them is, that when you place one of the gloves somewhere and put the other on, the empty glove will copy the motions of the worn glove. When the empty glove faces an obstacle, the wearer can feel it as if he/she were touching it and that delicately more so than if he/she were touching it with bare hand (so you could read braille or feel a crack on an eggshell) Trick is, you can't do this if you see the empty glove (with your eyes or magical means), actually it can't move if anyone sees it.
I think this would be very cool item for a thief and gives some great ideas to me. You gather info to build exact replica of a vault so that you can rob it without even setting your foot there... Than if you jump to combined usage with other items like immovable rod...

I like it except for the caveat of having to not see the empty glove.

I mean, it's mainly safetyguard against getting caught and a bit of a negative effect for using it because it seems like a powerful item to me, but I would let you find a wizard capable of modifying the enchantment if it was desired, for a "reasonable" price, of course...
