This wooden, ornately carved box of maple is medium in size, (tool box sized) weighs about 10 pounds. The cost is 7500 Gp. The outside appears to be a detailed accurate carving of a map of the world. the hinges are sturdy polished silver as is the clasp in the front.
To use, one must gather and fill the box with; dirt, twigs , 1 half gallon of water, rocks, and grass inside. If there is anything consisting of meat, metal or anything other than listed, it will not work. Folding down the inner panel under the lid reveals a magnifying crystal in the shape of a sleeping dragon with the midsection of the dragon clear from carving to allow magnification and flat on the bottom.
Closing the lid, you can use the crystal to identify the area you are in.Through the dragon, you realized the carving is far more detailed, showing forests and mountains Turning the crystal dragon around once in a counter clockwise circle, you will find that the dragon has become affixed to the top of the box. When you open the lid you can see that all the natural debris, has formed into the terrain that the dragon is magnifying from the top. It shows all the trees, boulders, and bodies of water covering a 5 mile area in real time. It can show houses, cave entrances, and forts but not inside. It does not show any creatures or people. Once the lid is open the crystal dragon cannot be removed until the lid is closed and it is spun back clockwise. Also once the lid is closed all the materials transform back as you had placed them in there and can be emptied.
I think this would be great for just planning a path, or a heist. Just a cool item to have.
