Great episode, one of my favorites so far. I didn't realize there were so many types of beholders! Also, I love spiders in real life as much as I do using them as RPG enemies. I can't recall ever running a campaign where they weren't featured.
Agreed on all counts with the guys' take on technology, discussed during the mailbag segment. Soon as it becomes more of a hindrance or distraction, it's not welcome at my table. Reminds me of the so-called "life hacks" proliferating on the net, which just complicate the trivial tasks they're meant to simplify.
Also, death by goblin explosives was my first player kill in 5th edition. It was just a grenadier, not the suicide bomber they talked about -- which is way cooler, and second only to the wing-guided, catapulted bombardier. Whatever the method, parties need to learn to fear goblins with gunpowder!

I really enjoy the start to this new series, and can't wait to hear what is next. The beholder and spider and very iconic, and have a ton of variance. I loved the call backs to the Baldur's Gate games especially with the beholder leading the thieves guild. Also, the phase spider are truly terrifying, but then again anything with tremor sense is scary. We often referred to a creature as a Spogres, and I can't remember if it was homebrew or from something. Essentially they were driders with the body of ogres on top instead of Drow.
The technology really does have to fit in seamlessly or it just bogs things down rather than help things along. I use my laptop so as to save my back, and use a single excel spreadsheet with all of the player info and monster info i need. It also helps with initiative as I can just type in the values and sort them in descending order.
Can't wait to use exploding goblins on a slightly higher level group!

This new series is dope!!! So many monsters already exists to explore and bringing home brewed monsters in just adds so much awesomeness! I hate any form of Ungoliant-spawn and liked hearing about the various forms of spider that exist. Part of me wants to take the darkness creature from my setting and make a dark version of them. The undead nyax worshippers are scary! Cant wait to see where this series goes.
Everyone comments on tech at the table are pretty spot on.
Also we(I) need a 5e conversion of exploding goblins!!!!

I loved the episode! I really enjoyed the different spiders (though next you have to do snakes!). All the information on the monsters was really cool. Great job! Mainprize, you should make a Durnosse-Beholder hybrid...

Mainprize, you should make a Durnosse-Beholder hybrid... Durnosse-Beholder, that sounds so terrifying, I will get to work on it now. Ok so I have been searching for this picture for about 3 hours because I thought it was super relevant to the sode and also because its is one of the creepy spider concepts I have ever seen. If I have the time between worldbuilding, homebrewing a Durnosse-Beholder and converting spells from Dota to DnD I will make a stat block for this thing. If not some one else totally should! With out further comments here is the picture.

Also we(I) need a 5e conversion of exploding goblins!!!! Goblin Grenade Small Humanoid (Goblinoid), neutral evil Armor Class: 10 Hit Points: 7 (2d6) Speed: 30 ft.
STR 13 (+1) DEX 10 (+0) CON 10 (+0) INT 8 (-1) WIS 8 (-1) CHA 8 (-1)
Skills: Stealth +6 Feats: Grappler Senses: Darkvision 60 ft., Passive Perception 9 Languages: Goblin Challenge: 1/2 (100 XP)
Fleet Feet. The goblin can take the Dash action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
ACTIONS Kamikaze: On their turn, the Goblin Grenades light their fuse and Dash into melee, attempting to grapple the nearest enemy and latch onto them until their payload explodes. Fuses last 1d4-1 (minimum 1) rounds. The ensuing explosion does 4d6 damage to all within 20'. Dexterity save; DC10 for half damage.
Goblin Grenades are sometimes used as ammunition for a catapult. +4 to hit. Range: 100/200. Catapults cannot target creatures or objects within 50' of them.
